I picked up a couple of t&l books second hand, because they were so much cheaper than getting them new. As an added bonus, they are full of scribbled annotations from their previous owners, which I absolutely love! Always interesting to see what points resonated with a different reader...

It's such a bad idea in anything other than the immediate short term as well. By putting too much scaffolding in place at the start, you end up with a class full of students who think they are experts, but really know nothing.

Maths teaching thought for the day: Students should meet almost all maths topics long before they see any formalised notation for them. E.g. This, before algebraic simultaneous equations.

"These of we" in Children of Ruin are comfortably the most terrifying things I've ever read. Highly recommend the series, because the first book is excellent as well, and significantly less frightening (unless you don't like spiders).
