I’ve just released an open-source version of AskAir.ai! All core functionalities are there, and over the next few days, I’ll be working to make self-hosting as easy as possible. I’ll be using SST.dev to replace several external SaaS. Follow along here: github.com/mathisobadia...

Gemini 2.0 is out, and there's a ton of interesting stuff about it. From my testing it looks like Gemini 2.0 Flash may be the best currently available multi-modal model - I upgraded my LLM plugin to support that here: github.com/simonw/llm-g... Gemini 2.0 announcement: blog.google/technology/g...

Learning there’s an undocumented lambda limit thanks to a production outage is just the perfect way to spend your evening.

Try to guess the day where I added prefetch={false} to all the Link components in my nextjs app
Graph of daily lambda cost, cost gets divided by 6 when prefetch is disabled

Very impressed by Recraft AI - a new image generation service that can generate editable vector graphics that you can export as SVG This seems massively more useful than tools that can only output raster graphics simonwillison.net/2024/Nov/15/...

I just spent a few hours trying to tweak a prompt to make it work with gpt4o mini but never got it to give consistent results even in the simple cases. I guess I’ll stick to gpt4o and revisit when my OpenAI bill gets higher than my cloudwatch bill (never)

I was wondering if I could use gpt-4o-mini as a reranker and obviously found a post by the great @simonwillison.net with included prompt. Only issue I found is it will not score all entries even if you ask nicely 😂 simonwillison.net/2024/Aug/11/...

Using gpt-4o-mini as a reranker
Tip from David Zhang: "using gpt-4-mini as a reranker gives you better results, and now with strict mode it's just as reliable as any other reranker model". David's code here …

This is the exact process I used to decide the pricing of my side project askair.ai. If you think it's too expensive go complain to claude-3.5-sonnet
Screenshot of the cursor editor, that just ai generated a pricing table

Working on my side project and wondering if I should build that feature that a single user requested or work on SEO to hopefully get more user requests
