specifically, resurgent interest in The Odyssey can only rightfully increase interest in H.D.'s Helen in Egypt

that’s why they want to get an accelerated credit rating at the same time as an astronomical IPO. They intend to launder the debt through retirement accounts

I don’t think we’re prepared for how bad it’d actually be if AI trade fails. It’s almost designed to fail, so that there’s no choice but to support it

then, on the other side of this, there’s how OpenAI delayed its SEC filings supposedly because of those (fake) alignment concerns. At the same time as this delay, the SEC working on unwinding its Enron / Worldcom accounting reforms. Seems like a convenient delay

(middle aged man continues to read the newspaper): here’s another interesting fact. “OpenAI expects negative free cash flow of $278 billion over five years”. that means investors will be paying for OpenAI to actively degrade the so-called knowledge economy…

I mean both views correct IMO and from different angles. Systemic racism and selfish familial neglect support — these two social phenomenon support each other

Even the most liberal person in the world can and often do use the racial makeup of a school as a proxy for the quality of that school for their kids. The mere fact they can even do that at *all* (and be correct most of the time) reminds you of the country we live in and its racist history.

there’s a strong (let’s be grandiose) epistemic virtue in getting information slowly and steadily over time. I won’t elaborate now. I guess you’ll have to wait for it 😂

I was tying my (unsubstantiated!) theory before you posted this question. Briefly, sounds like “expropriate corporate held property” is a local politics play that would get support in U.S. cities. Die Linke could be a model for social democrats in the Americas

Jared @mathbook.cafe · 21/09/2026
I don’t know anything about Die Linke or its policies, but that callout from FT that they “vows to expropriate property from corporate landlords” sounds like something that left-democrats in the U.S. could quickly pick up as a policy proposal. (Honestly I might vote for it or some other “Georgism”)

Chancellor Merz and his party appears to have lost popular mandate. This is the first time in two generations that the CDU has been crushed in elections, and kind of an end to Germany’s neoliberal unification politics. Seems like a hard left vs hard right legislative battle here on out

In the city-state of Berlin, the CDU was projected to be relegated to second place with 20 per cent, down from 28.2* per cent in the previous 2023 election.
The hard-left Die Linke party - which has vowed to expropriate property from corporate landlords - is expected to • surge to first place in the capital with an estimated 24.8-25.8 per cent. The party • was set to more than double its result: from the 12 per cent it secured in 2023.
The AfD was forecast to come third in Berlin with an estimated 13.8-15.7 per i cent, up from 9 per cent previously.

I'm finishing up Mark Siderits *The Buddah's Teachings as Philosophy*. This effort might turn into an essay, we'll see. I'll likely return to Cesar Aira *Five Novels* soon, too

I think we OD on describing the bad shit people do so much we often neglect painting the picture of what does "good" look like because we just assume its obvious. Well, if it *was* obvious we wouldnt need this fuckin conversation 😂.

Does anyone know why human beings keep making these exact same mistakes? Because, burdened with the illusion of self, we are convinced that when the same shape of reasoning is wielded by ourselves, it must be more legitimate and amenable to these circumstances in some way. This is incorrect.

they’ve been on a steady “Fear Uncertainty Confusion and Doubt” PR run all year, with an overpriced IPO in sight, and an accelerated credit rating timeline so they can launder their bad debt for institutional grade investments. That can only work if they have no competitors for the next 10 years

Jared @mathbook.cafe · 13/09/2026

One day we'll find it remarkable and insane that humans thought that they could ever stop interpreting non-human complex behavior through human lenses, let alone the idea that such a thing would be more useful. (Compared to what? What's a non-anthropocentrically-derived idea of what "useful" means?)

I like the improvements in threading. this allows me to keep a more sustained conversation over a longer time frame, even if it’s just with myself. a useful social media ”hack” involves sustaining attention outside the medium so that you can come back with a solid orientation. keeps away nonsense
