this comic is part of an assignment for students in my first-year seminar as they make their transition from HS to college.
Frazz knows that the students are the product and that society, employers, grad schools, etc are the consumers.

indeed, if we're doing this correctly, the student is the product. www.gocomics.com/frazz/2009/0...
Frazz knows that in a functioning educational system, the student is the product, while society, including graduate and professional schools, are the consumers.

a student dressed as me on Halloween early in the day versus late in the day.

"The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant" is an excellent book.

a sign in a shop window in Bar Harbor, Maine reads: "they're eating the checks! they're eating the balances!"

this seems like a good time to drag out this cartoon.

i made up a bunch of *nonsense definitions* this semester for learning objectives in my proof class. i like this one for a similar application.
the "definition" of the spurious mathematical object called a "Dow encabulator":

1. Consider the following definition:

Definition: A square matrix M is a Dow encabulator iff M is semibovoid and M satisfies one of the following two properties:
(a) the elementary-matrix decomposition of M is non-reversible, or
(b) no barescent vector of M is exempt from the differential functor.

What are the different ways that a square matrix M could fail to be a Dow encabulator? (Don't worry about what any of the words mean since they're mostly made up anyway.)
