I don't think I can work on her again after this. I'm going to patch her to make the drive back to the bay as safe as possible but then I need to walk away from it. It hurts too much. And as much as I want her back once she's driven her last mile to hopefully fix up I just can't do this anymore

I can already barely take care of my Baja at this point. She's at the point of being long overdue to have the entire drivetrain and suspension refreshed. I have to accept that every time I drive that car something could break that parks it for a WHILE. I already cry over the fact that she's dying

She's in town this week, so I took a look at the car and it just broke my soul. There is so much that is in really bad shape. I'm honestly shocked the car made it here in one piece considering it was bay area to pdx. And it just...I can't save her. We're past that tipping point.

The engine is puking oil from every seal, the transmission is unhappy, the suspension is completely cooked outside of the eBay special strut assemblies installed last year, the horn doesn't work, the starter is fussy, the spot lights don't work, the paint is even worse than ever, etc etc etc

Since then, I have had to watch that car experience a slow and agonizing decay. The interior slowly got more and more trashed and is now unsaveable. Which also hurts more as the seats from my Baja are in that car and are equally trashed. The whole interior reeks of sour milk from all the spilled tea

I sold that car to her for 1700 as while it was rough around the edges the chassis, suspension, and tires were in great condition plus it covered some of the labor of the swap to make it registerable. She always assured me she would take care of her and that when it came time I could buy her back

But part of why this car is sending me into tears is that back in 2019, my then MIL totalled her 98 Outback Sport. This car had an engine in it that wasn't smog legal so I was having trouble registering it and I wasn't driving it. So, I swapped in the drivetrain from her obs into this outback

Don't mind me just sobbing my eyes out over one of my past cars. This was my second 1996 Legacy Outback. My first one I loved dearly but was so rusty it became unsafe to drive, so I bought a second nearly identical one and transplanted the parts over that made it feel unique to me
