I really liked Fred and he was a dedicated writer but I had trouble finishing most of his stuff... I've heard his short stories are his best stuff, and he was well-regarded for his social-criticism essays...

We read a couple novels in the excellent and library-friendly Black Box edition of Boucher's mystery novels: THE CASE OF THE SEVEN OF CALVARY (1937) ROCKET TO THE MORGUE (1942)–originally published under Boucher's pseudonym, H. H. Holmes youtu.be/Vr1HVfAsIxk

Collier's third and final novel is very different from his "normal" and never quite predictable stuff, but much more enjoyable than I expected… (So I just realized I posted the wrong video, and have now endeavored to post the correct video with the correct title!) youtu.be/lSv-xQQdJBw

So we pack up what's left of my Simenon collection–what's left? A lot! Funny story: after packing up two full boxes of Simenon, and taping these two useless segments, I found about 1/3 of an entirely extra box! Which books were they? I can't recall, but lots of paperbacks. youtu.be/XCAQT6W4Z9s

Interesting I don’t think I’ve read Krull, but a Belgian writer who lived all over the world would quite likely reject nationalism….its an idea worth pursuing in my NEXT Simenon piece in the NEXT decade! Thx. S

Yeah actually I wrote a long paragraph on that book that got cut for space! Perfect example of Simenon taking specific occupation and turning it into a metaphoric one, but a really powerful novel.
