These decisions are rooted in an essentialist view of gender, seeing it as immutable, rather than a matter of self-determination. As ardent supporters of bodily autonomy, we deplore the Court’s adherence to this limiting narrative. Read the full statement at masstpc.org/hecoxBPJ

MTPC Condemns the Supreme Court Decisions Segregating Transgender Athletes in Little v. Hecox & B.P.J. v. West Virginia - MTPC
The Court has allowed systemic bigotry and a woeful misunderstanding of the needs of transgender youth to push them toward taking Tennessee’s side.

MA Trans Political Coalition @masstpc.org · 30/06/2026
We are certain that these rulings will embolden those who want to use state and federal policymaking to eliminate transgender and nonbinary people from public life. The Court also signaled that they are open to future judicial action persecuting transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people.

MA Trans Political Coalition @masstpc.org · 30/06/2026
By defending and endorsing sex-based segregation, the Court is expanding on the dangerous precedent they set in the disastrous US v. Skrmetti decision in 2025 allowing Tennessee to ban gender-affirming healthcare for those under age 18.

"Denying transgender people access to these opportunities does not make sports safer or fairer; it simply makes them less inclusive and sends a harmful message that trans people are not worthy of participation or belonging."

MA Trans Political Coalition @masstpc.org · 30/06/2026
“This decision is rooted in the same misinformation and fear that have fueled attacks on transgender people across the country,” says MTPC Executive Director Tre’Andre Valentine. “Sports are about far more than competition: they are where people build friendships, confidence, teamwork & community."

MA Trans Political Coalition @masstpc.org · 30/06/2026
Let us be clear—to exclude trans people from sports is to exclude them from a significant and core part of society and discourages their inclusion in everyday life.
100
MA Trans Political Coalition @masstpc.org · 30/06/2026
This is especially disheartening since we know that participation in sports comes with several benefits, including friendship, camaraderie, teamwork, physical health, and mental well-being.
100
MA Trans Political Coalition @masstpc.org · 30/06/2026
Predicated on misconceptions, stereotypes, and disinformation about the integration of trans people in sports and athletics, these rulings set an unacceptable precedent that transgender people should be segregated from their cisgender peers in society.
