I think there is a plausible argument Freud invented the speedball, and not in a baseball way. The treatment for opium was pretty clearly not cocaine, and I think that was knowable at the time. This goes to his general badness.

As I understand it, France will nuke Russia if Russia nukes Europe, seperate and apart from whatever America and the UK do, so it seems like Russia will not actually nuke Europe for Dr Strangelove reasons. So no one should do any appeasing.

I’ll never stop being angry at the Super Size Me guy for causing a moral panic when he was actually just an alcoholic

Rich Girl, by Hall and Oats, was actually about a rich boy. But they changed it to Rich Girl because it worked better. Same idea I think

Kinda fun to imagine what the world would be like in Term 2 of a Marco presidency vs term 1 of a progressive presidency - I guess in one scenario we are occupying Havana and in the other AI centers were banned from using any water whatsoever

Can I ask who you imagine would be in office today in the HRC-win timeline?

In a future waterworld type scenario, where only the highest, most mountainous nations survive and rule over the waves from their mountains, we could absolutely see a Swiss/nepal war

Without getting Zinn about it, the Daniel Immerwahr book How to Hide an Empire was interesting on this, he came to a similar conclusion to you - that you couldn’t be a multiracial empire unless you had universal franchise, and if you have the universal franchise you probably aren’t an empire anymore

That’s silly, an airplane flies because of the sorcerer who lives in its storage compartment

How much of this do you think is about the antitrust waiver. Is it something that’s been quietly important to them for a while? Or is it more like, “don’t let a good crisis go to waste? Why not use everyone being freaked out to see if we can get this reach goal cheaply?”

I think he meant the ascendancy of the “we are all going to be turned into paperclips but also we have to build the paperclip god as fast as possible because of reasons” people in media over the past couple weeks

I assume his lawyers told him he didn’t actually have a choice, and that the headache of dealing with a bunch of promoters suing him for nonperformance was not worth it (and would fuck over the people working on the tour, etc). Guy was in a horrible position because of Kraft et al

Oh me too, absolutely. But the dude wrote my Cherie amor, he wrote As. If we are picking the one American dude I believe could have kept going with Paul in a pop song game of horse, it’s little Stevland

People say the concept of oligarchy is too complicated, and that we like it because of EdPol. A smart politician will figure out how to make the recriminalization of white collar crime part of an emancipatory story for everyone else. I think it matters that millennials have unfullfilled 08 rage.
