If anything, her age should be a point in her favor because she LIVED through the time when Hip-Hop formed as a genre, she was alive when Fuck The Police and Fight The Power came out. This isn't to shade her or anything, she's a good person who's done more than I've ever done, it just blew my mind.

You might try to say "she's a white woman in her 60's, why should she know any of this?" I'm not an EXPERT on Hip-Hop or anything, but I'm white, and I know enough to say all of this. Hell, I saw some of this in real time, people on the news playing songs like Dior and Rockstar during protests.

I'm not even saying she - or anyone for that matter - has to like Hip-Hop music to participate in protests, that's an equally reductive statement. I just think writing off an entire genre of music born from the same struggles of racism and classism she protests against as "not real music" is crazy.

Fuck Tha Police, Fight The Power, The Message, Changes, White America, Square Dance, Alright, FDT, a lot of Ice-T songs the list goes on and on. Much like with Punk Rock, Rebellion is baked into the genre. Hip-Hop was born out of the very same struggles she protests over too this day.

Someone from the book club I went to tonight - a woman who organized No Kings protests in my city - said that she doesn't think Rap music is "real music". Like I get it, she's an older woman around my grandma's age, but most of the best protest songs are Rap songs, like come on now.

I can definitely see that. I think the issue I had with second comic personally was that I've used that exact argument against people who criticize the things I like. It happened so much I had to delete Tiktok because it got to me so bad.

I'm not asking this to try and start an argument or anything like that, I'm genuinely trying to understand the intent behind the artists choice and where this line of thinking comes from. With that being said...what's the problem with the sentiment of the original art peice?

When I was an early teenager and started taking showers, I would step away from the water and walk into it. I hated the feeling of the water hitting my skin immediately. I still do this now and I never thought it was weird until I told my dad about it.

Somewhere I Belong rips hard, I revisited Meteora lot this year and and that song is a definite highlight. Bleed It Out has been a personal anthem for me this year, followed closely by Heavy Is The Crown
