The bill that passed with bipartisan support-partisan support gave Trump broad leeway on whether to impose sanctions or not, while giving him new discretionary tariff powers. Fucking disgraceful.

I don’t think we can know for sure one way or the other. It just seems to me like if he thought the article mis-stated the impacts he would have said so. Like, why let that falsehood slide instead of noting it when you’re saying the policy is good?

masmith78.bsky.social @masmith78.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
That seems like a bit of a logical leap to me. Yglesias acknowledged that Obama set a precedent with his policy that targeted for profits, but I does it follow that he KNOWS that “Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest” is wrong.

masmith78.bsky.social @masmith78.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I understand that he’s thought about the value of student loans and debt forgiveness, I just don’t see evidence that he was aware that the article was misrepresenting this specific policy’s impacts, and thus that he was agreeing with the policy as it is not as the article represented it.

masmith78.bsky.social @masmith78.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
So did Yglesias actually know that when he tweeted? Why assume he did and he was tweeting in disagreement? (Honest question.)

Yes, I said he was a communist and supported communist party/Soviet policy. I didn’t say they were good policies. Definitely bad, but maybe still better than vocally supporting Nazi Germany?
000
masmith78.bsky.social @masmith78.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Agree. What I’m saying is that I don’t believe there’s evidence that Guthrie actively supported Nazi Germany or their intentions and views - he wasn’t a Henry Ford who vocally supported Hitler while being an anti-interventionist.
120
masmith78.bsky.social @masmith78.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I think as a communist he supported the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union was anti-intervention. So it’s not that he supported Nazi directly, but he was against the US going to war to fight them.

No, I have not looked at crack spreads and liquid rates (other than seeing your posts). I think he was clearly wrong with his 4-6 week timeframe, but his “markets are overreacting” comment seems like it was talking about the stock market based on the context, and that seems to have been correct?

I took my wife to see the Hip at 9:30 Club in D.C. It’s one of her favorite concerts she’s been to - spent the whole show sitting at the bar talking to roadies who’d worked for ‘The Highway Men’. For me, it was awesome to see them in a club instead of a stadium. I

If prime age EPOP is up, is it weak, or is it lack of immigration? I guess my question is: Is prime age EPOP up because more people are searching but unemployed (o think that’s included?), or is their employment actually up?

It’s not drastically different than the current system where the target is 2% PCE inflation, but uses different inputs to inform the decision. www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etud...

Nominal GDP growth targeting is a way to inform central bank interest rates. The theory is that real GDP can only grow so quickly, so if nominal GDP is growing too quickly, it’s not real growth but excess inflation.

I hear you, but it think it does approach that - for some families. A family with one parent earning $120k and one stay-at-home benefits about $625/month (if I did the math right). But if the single earner is only making $70k, the benefit drops to about $175/month.
