"I... wouldn't mind it," he admitted quietly. "My friends have never connected the dots on why I haven't chosen any of the girls to spend Valentine's Day with, but as someone who can read desires, I believe it's rather clear to you, right?"

"I suppose it's... more widely used than I thought," Ren muses, his eyes visibly sparkling at the reveal of the name. "Mockingbird is a fantastic moniker. Perhaps there's a likeness to Robin Hood in your actions?"

"That's good." He responds as soon as the thought processes, his honest opinion vocalised. "I've been lent power before, but it's a different kind of dynamic to the one we might have. I wouldn't order you around if I had you under my command, but I might order you away to protect you..."

"You're a Phantom Thief too?" he asks in disbelief, studying the face before him with curious eyes. "How? My friends and I were the only ones to don that name and form the group."

Unsurprisingly, Ren froze at both the voice, and the words it delivered. He was jokingly blasé about these things when among friends, but this newcomer seemed far too close to the mark for comfort. "Hehe, yeah... Imagine if that were possible. If only, right?"

"Forming bonds is kinda my thing," Ren mused thoughtfully, thinking of all his confidants and how much stronger he'd grown for knowing them. "I don't want to force you to be at my command though. I'm sure Avatars are supposed to have free will as well."

He eyed the arm, but let it slide. Asmodeus could be touchy-feely, it wasn't doing any harm though. "Do you... actually do the whole contract thing?" he asked as they walked. "Forging a bond or... whatever it was?"

Ren gave him a look. He didn't usually offer bias unless he felt strongly about something, but Asmo's lust was something which needed to be kept under wraps if they were to blend in among the other citizens. "Please don't do anything... sinful? We need to keep a low profile."

"I don't think he's the cause, but I think whatever's happening is the reason." Ren quirks an eyebrow at him. Ryuji seems to miss the memo when it comes to not drawing attention. "Which would suggest someone's granting wishes, or something to that effect."

"I relax in the bathhouse occasionally," Ren mused, trying to think back to the last time he actually had a moment for himself. He actually gets lost in his thoughts, struggling to find a single activity he hasn't done for someone else's benefit. "Oh, there are seats in the café I live at."

Ren stares at his hand as Asmo lifts it, his glasses steaming slightly with the heat of his face. If the Avatars don't know about the human cognition, there's probably a reason, so he decides to keep that to himself, but now he needs a new distraction. "I mean mementos as in... ways to remember."

「 𝐑𝐞𝐧 」 @maskedmettle.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

「 𝐑𝐞𝐧 」 @maskedmettle.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
