Deafening cheers echo over the city. Some rioters douse the building in gasoline, making the fire grow. Someone throws a Molotov cocktail that shatters with a celebratory blast. Others hold up their torches at us as the chanting starts back.
Journey raises our torch with a smile. "I can't believe you really did it." He shakes my shoulder with his free hand. "You started the fire."
I look down at the chaos below us. The passion for our rights so strong, even the cops have given up and given in. No way they're stopping this.
Sirens loom in the background as firetrucks on either side of the road try to weave through the human traffic. The building shakes under Journey and my feet. Smoke funnels in the air like a mushroom cloud. Pieces of the roof break off as the wooden beams underneath the blackened beige stone give way to blistering heat. The chants fade to a static hum. My mind drifts until I'm lost in my head, heartbeats echoing at rapid pace. This is real. The capitol is on fire...

I saw a post here that made me laugh. We all know that to be considered a writer, you have to write—but what about those who write in their heads? I have a recurring story that lives in my mind, and I have no plans to put it on paper because it’s just for me. 😅 Am I the only one? #writingcommunity
