⚖️ Specialist Courts Announcement 👩🏻‍⚖️ Always great to receive a message like this from a government department, particularly acknowledging that my advocacy played a pivotal part in securing this vital support. More 👇🏼.
Hi Mary, how are you? Hope its been a good start back.
I wanted to give you an early heads-up about an announcement we're making on tomorrow
(embargoed till then), as youve been such an advocate in this area.
We're announcing a £23m package of measures to improve the experience of victims in rape and serious sexual offence cases, including the rollout of specialist RASSO courtrooms. Fulfilling our manifesto commitment! The package includes:

⚖️ A specialist RASSO courtroom in every Crown Court location by 2028, with trauma-informed court staff, better access to special measures, and a consistent best-practice approach across sexual offence trials.

💷 Investment in court buildings to improve the experience for victims, including separate entrances for victims and defendants, upgraded witness and waiting areas, and private spaces for victims to meet family, supporters or lawyers.

👩🏻‍⚖️ A new taskforce, chaired by the Lord Chancellor, to tackle delays and improve the progression of rape cases through the criminal justice system.

❤️ A pilot of a dedicated single point of contact for victims at court, helping people navigate the process alongside existing specialist support services.

I’m so pleased that I could play such an key role in keeping this issue high on the government’s agenda, so that victims of rape and serious sexual offences are able to access the support, and importantly - see the justice they so truly deserve. 🫶🏼

I strongly welcome today’s announcement that the Government will ban goods from illegal settlements & take action against services that facilitate them. More 👇🏼.
The situation in Palestine is a moral emergency.
This Labour Government will not stand by.
Today Labour is taking action to defend the viability of a two-state solution. We are:
• Concluding that Israel's ongoing occupation of Palestinian territory is unlawful, in line with the finding of the International Court of Justice.
• Banning trade in goods from illegal Israeli settlements and taking action on services, creating new designation powers to go after individuals and companies that support, facilitate or profit from illegal settlement activity.
• Banning advertising or promotion of land and property in illegal settlements.
• Strengthening our existing global human rights sanctions regime to go after those who defy international humanitarian law, in Palestine, and around the world too.
• Using our existing global human rights regime to sanction several extremist settlers who have supported or incited acts of violence against
Palestinian communities.
• Reimposing major economic sanctions on Iran, and bearing down on its network of proxy groups including Hezbollah.I’ve consistently supported the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination & raised serious concerns about settlement expansion & annexation which has led to the devastating humanitarian crisis we have seen.

For too long, statements of concern have not been matched by meaningful action.

Today’s announcement is such a welcome and important step towards upholding international law and keeping the hope of a two-state solution alive.

I will continue to press for a constructive and principled approach that delivers justice, protects civilians and supports a lasting peace for Palestinians and Israelis.

I’ve received contact from a number of residents in the Deerness ward and from former Labour County Cllr, Marion Wilson, expressing concerns about the cessation of NHS dentistry services at the Burgess and Hyder Dental Practice in Esh Winning. More 👇🏼.
I’d like to reassure patients that I’ve contacted the North East Integrated Care Board this week and I’ll also be reaching out to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, as well as the practice itself.

The erosion of NHS dentistry services in our communities has been happening slowly before our eyes for years and it cannot continue. Many of you will know this is an issue I’ve long campaigned on and continue to do so.

I understand patients will be concerned about what they do next, particularly if they cannot afford a monthly subscription. I’ll be glad to report back once I’ve heard from all those I’m contacting about these changes. If you are a patient at the practice and would like to stay updated, please contact me via email.

Constituents & NFU have expressed concerns about Bluetongue (BTV-3). While it doesn’t present a risk to human health or food safety, it is causing significant concern among livestock farmers due to its impact on animal welfare, farm productivity & business costs. I’ll follow today's UQ closely.
Stephen Morgan MP
Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs (By email only)
3 September 2026
Dear Stephen,
Re: Bluetongue (BTV-3) and Support for Livestock Farmers
I am writing on behalf of livestock farmers in my constituency regarding the ongoing spread of Bluetongue serotype 3 (BTV-3), following correspondence from NFU North on the issue.
While bluetongue does not present a risk to human health or food safety, it is causing significant concern among livestock farmers due to its impact on animal welfare, farm productivity and business costs. Farmers are particularly concerned about the financial pressures associated with vaccination, fallen stock disposal and the wider disruption caused by outbreaks on farm.
I would be grateful if you could provide an update on the steps the Government is taking to support affected livestock farmers and maintain resilience across the sector as case numbers continue to rise. In particular, I would welcome any information regarding efforts to improve vaccine availability, support disease surveillance and testing capacity, and ensure that disposal and animal health infrastructure can cope with increased demand.
More widely, I know that farmers in County Durham will also be keen to understand how the Government is working with industry and the Animal and Plant Health Agency to manage the outbreak and strengthen preparedness for future animal disease challenges.
I would be grateful for any update you are able to provide and look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
maryk foy

Really excited to get back into all things Westminster after a great summer recess spending time meeting great people and groups in the constituency. 🫶🏼 First though, I spent this morning at an event in Newcastle with my new Housing PPS hat on, at a North East Warm Homes Summit 🏡. More 👇🏼.
The event provided a forum for leading experts from across Government and industry to explore practical solutions to the challenges facing fuel poor households across the North East. As always it was great to hear from NE Mayor, Kim McGuinness!

Each week I hear from people across the City of Durham constituency who are either stuck on housing waiting lists or renting at unaffordable cost to keep a roof over their families head. It is a devastating and familiar reality for many people here in our community. More 👇🏼
A Labour graphic stating Labour is backing the NE to build more than 3000 council social and affordable homesNow, this Government is taking further action to fix it by giving councils the backing to get back to building homes.

We are unlocking £10 billion to deliver 70,000 new council and affordable homes across the country. Crucially, 60% of these will be strictly for social rent, delivering the genuinely affordable, secure housing that local people actually need. 🏡

For the North East, this means an estimated £445 million to help get around 3,400 new homes off the ground.

Everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home. We’ve got a long way to go to fix the mess we inherited, but going further with our ambition to build council and social housing is exactly what real change looks like.

Its always a loss when a beloved pub gets bought by developers & turned into flats/offices. Our pubs are such a vital part of our communities across Durham. So I’m pleased the govt is stepping in & announced new planning rules to give all pubs proper protection. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Developers will now have to prove there is genuinely no other option before they can knock a pub down, including marketing it for sale as a pub for a full year first.

This Government is pushing forward with reforms to ensure more housing, but building those homes shouldn't mean losing the places that bring our towns and villages together. 🍻
