The past often needs to be addressed to heal and move forward. I think the key is not to get stuck focused on your past, without resolving it.

In early recovery, I knew I had to prioritize what I was focused on. I couldn't possibly fix everything or do everything all at once. I think this was a major factor in my success, that I realized this. #recoveryposse #wedorecover #soberlife

Having a plan for social events where alcohol or other drugs are being consumed is important in early recovery. With the holiday season on the horizon, this can be a good time to create a list of strategies that will help you.

We are habit formation creations. This relates to why I emphasize with addiction recovery newbies that positive changes, repeated, change the brain. It's a big part of why sobriety gets easier with time and practice.

Great! Separating kids from parents often is traumatizing. But the situations you mention are high enough risk of harm that a report is appropriate, so someone will investigate.

I do have a concern with conflating substance use with child abuse. With the drug alcohol, there's a distinction between use and harm to a child. The same should be true for all drugs.

The #cannabis addiction rate has risen, which is a concern and people should be told of the risk. At the same time, the #alcohol addiction rate dropped more than the CUD rate increased. And it may well be that some people who developed a CUD might, instead, have developed an AUD.

Yes, acknowledging the reality that a high percentage of us aren't 100% successful from day 1 isn't encouraging relapse. It's an effort to reduce shame. And to let those struggling know that the success stories they see mostly involved imperfect abstinence too.

Perhaps you're not aware, but the "connection is the opposite of addiction" ideology has received a lot of criticism because it oversimplifies. While you may not have intended to do this, even Johann Hari has acknowledged the problem.
