🗳️ How do armed groups win votes in democracies? 📖 @marybethaltier.bsky.social’s research shows they thrive in security vacuums – when people see the state as unable (or unwilling) to protect them, and turn instead to alternative sources of governance. 🔗 Read more: doi.org/10.1093/jogs...

🖇️ My article is out in the Journal of Global Security Studies. The study examines how armed groups win over voters in developed democracies where the state maintains territorial control & continues providing services. 🙏Many thanks to all who supported this research over the years. 🔗 bit.ly/4mXZZe2

Proud of these NYU Center for Global Affairs Masters' students who last semester researched how violent extremists & other malicious actors may harness AI as part of DA'sDistrict Attorney's Office. Also spent a good bit of time looking at AI detection tools. Plan to share the report more widely soon

Excited to see today's @nytimes.com article on the State Dept's GEC pre-empting a Russian disinfo campaign in Latin America (nyti.ms/3Qxylac). Last spring our NYU Center for Global Affairs grad students mapped the disinfo & malign influence landscape as part of a consulting practicum for the GEC
