Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 20/06/2026You could have applied for a national endorsement and had all the support you needed. Why should we help a chapter that has repeatedly told the rest of us we don’t matter? 020
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 30/11/2024While I think representative democracy is valid, I don’t think it’s enough to have WG reps elected. How are they responsive to member concerns? What feedback mechanisms are in place. Much of the drama around electeds comes from members feeling they don’t have a say. 000
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 30/11/2024Yes agree about the endorsement process. I would like to see direct member input into strategy and approach to governing. This could happen through passing a yearly strategy document before the legislative session or something like that. 100
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 30/11/2024Earnest question…where does the democratic input of members fit into this? All I have seen from the model is a siloing away of electeds from democratic input by the membership. 110

Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 28/11/2024On the whole we all need to work on keeping things political and not letting factionalism turn into grudges. That requires all parties to be truthful and direct with their politics and know that we’re all stuck together and a commitment to democracy and protecting the multi-tendency nature of DSA 020
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 28/11/2024Everyone can always tone it down a bit, but there is always going to be factional fights and that’s fine. We also aren’t all always moving in the same direction and we do need to democratically work that out. 100
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 28/11/2024Ehhh…I think this is a little wishful thinking. It CAN but there are competing interests and visions for the direction of the org. Not everything needs to be a drag out fight, but sometimes it does. In the grand scheme of socialist history DSA is actually very harmonious. 100

Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024Not sure how this is relevant to the topic at hand. 000
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024I’m not a social democrat, but social democracy is part of a socialist tradition. I’m not saying people can’t be social democrats. The ideology here is still socialist though. 000
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024What constitutes socialism really isn’t up for debate. You can say you’re not a socialist, that’s fine. But you don’t get to argue the definition of socialism. 000
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024That’s what socialism is and that’s why we need theory. 100
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024What you are calling for could theoretically happen under capitalism. Though it would not be sustainable for the long term. The removal of the profit motive and the emancipation of the working class from the capitalist class is necessary for a system to be socialist. 100
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024Yes, that will be the result of socialism, but it is not its goal. The goal of socialism in order for it to be socialism is for the working class to have control over the means of production and the removal of the profit motive from that relationship. 100

Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024I don’t have to understand the toaster to use it, but if I wanted to create a new kind of toaster, I need to know how it works, what’s its weaknesses are and how to improve it. Socialism’s goal is to build a new kind of society. We have to understand this one and the one we want to do that. 100
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024Self-emancipation requires understanding. What things are we getting done? Who decides? How do we know what to do to win? What tactics are we using? What is the end goal? Answering any one of those questions requires theory. 200
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 25/11/2024Nope, socialism is an ideological project as much, if not more so, than it is an organizing project. It’s one of liberating ourselves as a class from capitalism. We need to do more than just talk about policies and campaigns. Theory is necessary for that. 110
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 24/11/2024I mean this isn’t really a message for those people. It’s a message for people who organize as socialists about the importance of leading with our own politics. 130
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 24/11/2024To add…you can have a mass movement that is not socialist in nature and you can have a socialism that is not mass in nature. Our goal is connect our socialist ideology to a movement that is mass and collective. That is the most difficult part. 110
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 24/11/2024You’re not ideologically close. You’re ideologically distinct. And your defensiveness over having to admit you are not the left is very telling. 030
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 24/11/2024No you misunderstand me. I am not interested in it being an identity marker. I do think it’s important to see it as movement and a collective struggle. That is part of shifting mindset. But you can’t get there without making the ideological difference clear. 120
Kristin 🍞&🌹 @marxandcookies.breadandros.es · 24/11/2024I think one thing as socialists we need to be clearer about in this moment is that liberalism even progressive liberalism is not socialism. Becoming a socialist REQUIRES a break with the liberal worldview and a transformation of the way you see and understand the world. 4448
