KC is big and crazy. Lawrence is a pleasant university city. Old campus is beautiful. My personal recommendation would be Abilene, KS. Peaceful, sensible, and home of the Eisenhower presidential library, museum, and burial site.

If the project involves anything more complex than KolourPaint and Shotwell editing capabilities, it's beyond me. Gimp's way over my head. I know you're much more tech savvy. We love Linux.
