The theme of this week’s logo is “endings”: Havok accidentally kills Storm, who is definitely dead for good; the Hulk breaks up with Marlo, after an interlude with Werewolf by Night; Jean Grey encounters Death after…you know; and She-Hulk defeats Pseudo-Man! #marvel #cmro #mda

This X-Men B story takes place right after Jean Grey’s death, where she finds herself in some sort of afterlife and has a conversation with Death. The problem is that this story contradicts a lot of the Phoenix canon that was established after those events. #marvel #xmen

[Classic X-Men #43, Jan. 1990] There is only one Classic X-Men issue left after this one! These B stories have been interesting, but I’d rather get new stories instead of confusing retcons to earlier stories. And this one is confusing! [#cmro M7950]

There are a few clever twists to the battle, but in the end She-Hulk overloads Pseudo-Man’s helmet, short-circuiting his mind-control powers. But was he really an alien?? We’ll never know. #marvel #shehulk

“I know this starship doesn’t exist! I even know it’s not capable of atmospheric flight!” Steve Gerber even manages to sneak in some of his nerdier Star Trek knowledge! #marvel #shehulk

The pop-culture imagery can be a bit much, but I do like some of the references from this issue. Some. #marvel #shehulk

Pseudo-Man projects his mind-controlling images across the city, and the citizens are terrorized by pop-culture characters who are just different enough to evade copyright infringement! Who knows who that burger clown and long-necked movie alien could be?!? #marvel #shehulk

They make a point of saying that Pseudo-Man is actually an alien—his parents are Zag-Nu and Ziapadora—but then it’s meaningless to the plot and it’s never brought up again. This issue doesn’t seem very well thought-out. #marvel #shehulk

I honestly don’t know how they got away with these panels. One in particular seems extremely suggestive. #marvel #shehulk

If his name is Pseudo-Man, why does the symbol on his chest say “PS”? Shouldn’t it be “PM”?? I guess it doesn’t really matter on a throwaway villain. #marvel #shehulk

[Sensational She-Hulk #11, Jan. 1990] I know we’re already reached the ’90s in the reading order (thanks to that Wolverine graphic novel), but this is the first regular-series issue with a 1990 cover date! [#cmro M7949]

When Loopner is knocked out by some wreckage, She-Hulk is faced with a succession of illusions before running into this dime-store Mysterio who calls himself Pseudo-Man! #marvel #shehulk

She-Hulk accepts a meeting from Lexington Loopner, a public-relations expert who offers to rehabilitate her image for free…as long as she protects him from a former client trying to steal his holographic mind-manipulation technology! #marvel #shehulk

I just realized that this issue is completely free from moments where She-Hulk breaks the fourth wall! Even in this scene where she looks at the camera (“camera”?!? Viewer??), she’s still addressing someone else in the room. These stories are so much better now! #marvel #shehulk

With the threat of a mistrial looming, the D.A. is forced to take Jennifer Walters off the case, as her presence as a superhero will most likely bias every jury. Again, this exchange was used almost verbatim in the She-Hulk TV show. #marvel #shehulk

After She-Hulk saved a bunch of bystanders—with some jurors nearby—the defense attorney moves for a mistrial, arguing that the jurors would be prejudiced in favor of Jennifer Walters. This identical plot was later used in the She-Hulk TV show [#mcuo C650]! #marvel #shehulk

I just noticed that this artwork by Bryan Hitch seems heavily influenced by the work of Alan Davis. Do all British comic artists have the same training, or did Hitch mimic Davis directly? If you’re going to learn from someone, might as well learn from the best! #marvel #shehulk

The Hulk breaks up with Marlo for good, and not via Banner like last time. He hints that maybe she’s actually in love with Banner, but she doesn’t really understand their dual identity. Anyway, it looks like Marlo is finally gone for good. #marvel #hulk

“I got enough problems being me and Banner. Last thing I need is to become the gray werewolf of Yucca Flats.” I love this jokes about the Hulk also becoming a werewolf. Speaking of which, I can’t wait for the Werewolf Captain America storyline! #marvel #hulk

The internal conflict between Banner and Hulk concerns Marlo Jones: Hulk wants to contact her even though the broke up, and Banner thinks they should just leave her alone. But when she comes out to Yucca Flats, the Hulk has to save her from Werewolf by Night! #marvel #hulk

Writer Peter David is also doing more with the Hulk’s and Banner’s personalities influencing each other in subtle ways—or, in the case of this splitting headache, not-so-subtle ways! #marvel #hulk

The Hulk it trying to fight off this beast before he transforms back to Bruce at dawn…but the beast is a werewolf, so he transforms back at dawn too! (I mean, he’s called Werewolf by Night for a reason!) #marvel #hulk

They’re really doing interesting things with the Hulk/Bamner relationship: The two of the, have full subconscious conversations, and here the Hulk is trying to delay his dawn transformation so that Banner won’t get killed by this werewolf! #marvel #hulk

This is such a Jim Lee face! Maybe once I see more of his artwork, I’ll figure out what exactly makes it distinctive. I feel like the inking on the cheeks has a lot to do with it. #marvel #xmen

Nanny and Orphan-Maker are back, and they’re supposedly trying to save the X-Men by attacking and capturing them. Are they saving them from the Reavers, or some other future threat? No one knows. #marvel #xmen

Dream sequences are often just excuses to show cool imagery that is otherwise meaningless…but this imagery is really cool, and it hits of a darker connection as Longshot transforms into Mojo! He leaves the X-Men right after this, and won’t be back for a few years. #marvel #xmen

Longshot has an extended dream sequence which includes this moment with Ricochet Rita and Spiral. Does Longshot have a clue that Spiral is just Rita at a different point in her timeline?? Is this the first hint to the reader?! I’m curious when it happens. #marvel #xmen

I’m trying not to post single pages that only tease future stories, but this is a cool group shot. Remember the Reavers, the cyborg villains that the X-Men displaced? They’re coming back, and they want revenge on the X-Men for stealing their base! #marvel #xmen

It’s another milestone issue: This is Jim Lee’s first issue as penciler for Uncanny X-Men! His run on this and other X-Men series isn’t extraordinarily long—he leaves Marvel in 1992—but he pretty much defined the look of these characters in the ’90s! #marvel #xmen

This week’s logo brings us some weird aliens: The Silver Surfer encounters the cute Druffs, and is infected by Hlavac’s Disease; and in the pages of Nick Fury, we meet the Gnobian Mother, and the heroic unformed alien known only as Lump! #marvel #cmro #mda

Marvel Daily Art @marveldailyart.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
The Omega Bomb detonates, destroying the base just as Nick Fury and his companions escape! And I guess that’s the end of the Gnobians, who we will hopefully never see again in future stories. Hopefully this rest of this series is more grounded! #marvel #nickfury

Marvel Daily Art @marveldailyart.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Lump telepathically connects with the Gnobian Mother, and he unlocks a small pocket of humanity (Gnobianity??) within her. But she knows it’s only temporary, so she sets the Omega Bomb to destroy herself and the entire base! #marvel #nickfury

Wilhelmina Schmidt has been trying to atone for his past crimes, and on his deathbed he encourages Lump to be brave and attempt to restore the Gnobian Mother. Maybe the little guy can be a hero after all! #marvel #nickfury

The Gnobian Mother is purely evil at this point, and it seems like there’s no way to either save her or destroy her. Things seem truly doomed for our heroes. #marvel #nickfury

The flawed premise of these stories is that the aliens are telepathically poisoned by Strucker’s hateful mindset, particularly his desire to destroy Nick Fury. They sit and have open conversations about Strucker’s evil influence, yet they keep following it. #marvel #nickfury

Nick Fury gets some great action moments in this issue. They should have been used in the service of a better story. #marvel #nickfury

Marvel Daily Art @marveldailyart.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
One of the interesting ideas in this story (maybe the only interesting idea) is that Strucker stole the secrets of alien technology back in 1944, and that technology was used for A.I.M., Hydra, and eventually migrated over to S.H.I.E.L.D. It would explain a lot. #marvel #nickfury

Marvel Daily Art @marveldailyart.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
If you need a summary of this six-issue storyline, a helpful summary is provided on the title page: Strucker found aliens and turned them into Nazis. If they weren’t so determined to draw out the mystery, this could have been finished in two, maybe three issues. #marvel #nickfury
