Sometimes I can’t help but think I might be crazy for spending so much time on @neontrip.app, but once in a while I hear back from fellow enthusiasts out there! It means so much to get supportive feedback like this! 🥹 Thank you for riding along! 🙏🏻 #indiedev #visionOS
5 star, App Store review saying:
New update is sweet!

From user: Tim McPeabody

The improved render quality is totally noticeable, I'm super excited about this!
This app speaks to my soul, thank you so much for continuing to work on this!

I finally converted my renderer to support foveated mode. It was much simpler than I thought. 🤦‍♂️ I don’t think the docs spell it out explicitly, but this enables rendering at higher resolution than otherwise with Metal.🤘 The framerate suffers though, so I need to work on that! #visionOS #GPU
Image demonstrating foveated rendering where the center area uses most pixels and gradually the angle per pixel increases closer to the edges. The scaling is “Cartesian” rather than radial, so we still end up with a rectangular image. The hardware warps this image when it is presented, so the image looks correctly. The low res images are way out in the areas that gets blurred by the lenses anyway, so no real harm is done unless we get too much of a moire effect going.
Thanks for reading my tech talk. 😉

Claude apparently got fed up with work yesterday and seemed to reflect on its own abilities. I had to take a screenshot. 🤣
Screenshot of Claude code saying:

* Insight
• File editing tools work best with targeted, isolated changes - complex refactoring of large blocks can create orphaned code
• Sometimes it's better to manually edit complex files in Xcode rather than via automated tools

By the way. You probably have a thousand photos of yourself presenting, but I still think this is one came out pretty great.

Do I need to file feedback if my description is _identical_ to the placeholder text in Feedback Assistant? Are you trolling me Xcode? Was the example text auto completed on my behalf? (For reference: FB17161581 “Xcode crashes when using auto complete while showing Code Review”) #Xcode

Who derives joy from something like that? Great question…

Friday night is back! I’ve had some time to listen to music and try out some ideas for visualizations. There’s a LOT of work to do to get this into a releasable form, but I can’t wait! #indiedev #visionOS #synthwave
Mildly psychedelic space scene with glass tile neon ribbons floating in orbit above a blue planet called Yuppieter. Yuppie as in a Young Urban Pro… it’s an eighties thing.. An attempt at a pun. Look… If I could describe it in words I wouldn’t need an image. I am sorry. I am not good at these Alt texts.
Cheers!

I finally had the opportunity to work on ray tracing with Metal 3 and want to share a little demo clip. 🪩 For now my ray tracing is not fast enough for @neontrip.app on Vision Pro, but I have some optimization ideas to test out. 🔬👨‍💻 Stay tuned! 🎛️

The trick is to keep the rotation separate and update it based on the drag. (We don’t want to rotate a transform that has already been rotated) The Spatial framework is super handy for this! Disclaimer: I am just figuring this stuff out now.

I wanted ctrl-dragging on the rendered image to rotate the viewer just like in the visionOS simulator. And unlike in the simulator I also wanted to be able to roll the image. (with a slider) #visionOS #metalAPI

Hi @iosdevalb.bsky.social, I would have sent you a DM if I could. Thank you for your beautiful SwiftUI tips! Here’s a tip for aligning SF Symbols eg. in round buttons. (Perhaps you have already posted something like this, but I was about to give up before trying this.)
Two variations of the same button. The second button wraps the SF Symbol image in a Text view to activate the “text layout” of the symbol. This has the effect of properly aligning the symbol within the button.

Question for app developers on Apple platforms: When testing in-app purchases in the sandbox environment, is it normal that the “purchase successful” dialog is shown with a warning triangle? I’ve had some difficulties finding adequate documentation about this…
System dialog showing the text “Your purchase was successful” also featuring a yellow warning triangle icon.
