in which we journey to a paranoid dystopian future that doesn’t look all that different from the world outside our window - is that a good thing? perhaps - and just hear me out here, I recognize this a stretch - it is we who are not doing OK.

Review excerpt - Is Ted OK? is set about five minutes in the future, a world in which the dominant emotional palette appears to oscillate between paranoia and exhaustion. Not that different from our own, in other words. They even have self-driving cars that explode on a regular basis, one of those details that feels like it really should be a throwaway gag for Tharg but is currently a giant sinkhole in the middle of our actual lives in the here and now, one of many such giant sinkholes. Another unavoidable sinkhole? Pervasive surveillance - as we see, our hero isn't actually Ted. Ted is the subject of 24-hour surveillance by Sarah, also working for the same massive conglomerate as Ted, the Ayn-Styne group. The corporations have abandoned any pretense of euphemism and are now watching everyone always, and drafting everyone else to do more watching on their own time.

My thoughts on Flanagan's Carrie--it will piss certain people off, but don't let that ruin your enjoyment of something. It is in no way a perfect viewing experience, but there is enough there to make it an interesting addition to the mythos. De Palma's work will always be there.

I was talkinng to my wife about romantasy--and while I am no expert--I was thoroughly surprised that there aren't more love triangles. According to Callah, the two lovers in the books just go 'hardcore' for one another and that's that. Like, where's the fun in that?
