Being the "nasty party" is an advertisement in 2026, especially a certain kind of nasty.

Steps: 1) Public loathes Trump branded buildings. 2) Democrats promise to erase them. 3) Public votes for Democrats. 4) Democrats erase Trump. 5) Public, egged on by media, blames Democrats for wasting time erasing Trump. 5) Public votes for Republicans; process starts again over different issue.

Butlerian Jihad. Frank Herbert wrote Dune in the late 50s, early 60s, when AI was purely theoretical. Most people were wildly optimistic about technology and the future; if you were a doomer, it was over the prospect of nuclear war. Sometimes you look at someone and have to be a little bit awed.

I'm quite certain Bari Weiss is independent. The word means practically nothing, when you can select people to run things who will do your bidding without having to be asked.

I have this thought in my head that if Susan Collins were worth voting for, she'd have realized she is very bad for the country, and would never have run again in the first place.

A smart phone is thousands of times more powerful than the Cray-1 supercomputer, whose 50th birthday was this year. The Cray cost $8 million, and weighed 5 1/2 tons. At some point, computing power will become so great, so cheap, and so diffused, centralized control is impossible.

The Cray-1 supercomputer was launched in 1976, 50 years ago. It weighed 5 1/2 tons. Your smartphone is thousands of times more powerful. It weighs about 6 ounces.

Agreed, but it's just a matter of time until the technological speed bumps are paved over. A smart phone has more computing power than an entire mainframe computer in the 1970s. You can slow AI down, but you can't stop it -- unless you can stop ALL technological innovation.

The genie is out of the bottle, and it ain't going back in. You can try to outlaw it, but you can't legislate what other countries do, and then you have what I call moonshine AI -- small groups of people, and clandestinely operating governments, developing it extra-legally. The rewards are too big.

Mustangs aren't exclusively male. So maybe he isn't a gay zoophile, just a regular zoophile. This, however, brings up the question of a testosterone filled mare. It's an ontological conundrum I don't think the human mind is quite able to resolve.

He's a con man. Everything a con man does is aimed at the marks. In this case, the marks are the people who voted for him in the past, but might not vote at all this time because they are demoralized. Logically, $90 ain't spit, but Trump marks aren't known for logic.

"...no one with a functioning brain..." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

martin george @martingeorge.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The idea is to give the discouraged Trump people who were planning on not voting some excuse to show up. $90 doesn't seem like much of an excuse, but maybe, as they say, it's the thought that counts.

It's a terrible indictment of our society that he almost never has to do that, that he can say awful, "stupid" things, and the worst thing was he got kicked off Fox, but remains influential among what passes as conservatives. He should be shunned, not celebrated -- not anywhere. /

Carlson is not operating from ignorance. He's operating from an entirely different set of values -- anti-liberalism -- than most Westerners. He's pushing that agenda here, as he does everywhere else. Should it become necessary, he'd quickly adopt a Motte-and-Bailey, "devil's advocate" defense. 1/

~12.7 billion COVID vaccinations have been administered around the world. Surely people ought to be dropping like flies by now?

His primary opponents told GOP voters he was a con man, grifter, and fraud. So they were serving as his publicists.

The right wing has met the globalists, and it is themselves.

Perhaps because what he said and what I said are not 100% incompatible. Simply from the standpoint of arithmetic, what he said is correct. I don't think that it's practically correct, but it's not disprovable, either. In the end, it's not important to my point, so I really don't care.

To a large extent it doesn't matter what Stein voters would have done. What matters is what Stein did, which was to serve as a mouthpiece for right wing taking points, from an ostensibly left wing position. I don't know how much clearer I can make this.

Watching some old Twilight Zone episodes, and I'm struck by the sense of wonder and mystery they had back then that we've completely lost. Now, everything is cynicism and doubt, the enemies of progress.

Then what was the point of what you said? The issue is simple: either nadir had an effect, or he didn't.

Stein spent most of her campaign slagging Clinton, including amplifying the nonsense about her emails, and claiming she was "more dangerous" than Trump. It's impossible to know how much effect that had, but it absolutely had an one.

Yes, and Gore lost his home state! And nadir saying "only Al Gore could beat Al Gore," whatever that means. It's a deflection tactic. nadir doesn't run, doesn't vociferously claim both sides are the same, and the chain reaction that led to Trump doesn't happen. Ideologues are destructive.

Most data centers are installed in rural areas. It's interesting how they vote for the GOP, and the GOP just butt-rams them, over and over and over. No lube. Just the butt-ramming.

Damn. This indemnifies them from shareholder lawsuits in the event the world falls apart -- or is destroyed -- because of their product. Some forward thinking lawyers right there -- or maybe they used their own product to generate the prospectus.

Next to Trump, Orban was THE hero of the right, until he lost. They model much of what they do on Orban's Fidesz. You know Tillis is on the way out when he pipes up with this now, because otherwise, it would spark a primary challenge he'd lose.

When people don't have purpose in their lives, they create one. Which is, I suppose, a fancy way of saying what the bible -- which I will bet big money this guy has never read -- said: "Idle hands are the devil’s workshop."

Whenever I watch some sci-fi show featuring interstellar travel, I always wonder how many people think human beings will be the ones controlling the ships -- assuming we ever get to the point of interstellar travel. For me, it's a willing suspension of disbelief that seldom happens anymore.

The hockey stick chart is the key, but people think linearly, and have an almost impossible time imagining what is essentially geometric progression. Once the inflection point is hit, and I think we're pretty much there, things will happen so fast our brains won't be able to make sense of them.

Stupid enough to send Trump to the White House ... twice. As a group, people are incurious, and when they are fed a constant stream of carefully managed bothsidesism, they get pretty stupefied.

Trump decides what's legal, which means it's legal if they pay him enough. In the real securities business, margin use is heavily regulated because it can ruin people's lives. Here, you have some incredibly unsophisticated people who will be taking on risk they won't understand.

"as it means more opportunity for our creatives, production crews and employees across the business..." A company I once worked for laid off employees, reduced the hours it would service customers, and then put out a press release: "To better serve you, we are reducing our workforce."
