Princeton and Plainfield are right next to each other, though! I went to high school off Great Road (Stuart Road, IYKYK). Just checked Google Maps to make sure I hadn’t forgotten in my years exiled to the Midwest. Nope, right next to each other. A chunk of Princeton is north of Plainsboro.

Purple orchid that my children got me for Mother’s Day 2025. It’s starting to rebloom, with one open flower on an old growth stem and at least five flower buds on a new growth stem.

The orchid is potted in a container that is described on a sales page as “its 47 smooth, flexible tines provide maximum airflow and light while preventing roots from getting tangled or stuck. Made from durable, UV-resistant plastic, each pot includes a detachable drip tray for superior drainage.” Can be purchased from RePotMe.com. Container is filled with a potting mix composed only of coconut husks, perlite, stalite, and spaghnum moss.

Younger kid has been sick since Friday evening with diarrhea for roughly 24 hours, followed by sneezing and coughing with a mild sore throat. Used my molecular testing rig to test them for COVID. Clearly positive! Flights to DCA for Christmas with my mom and siblings have been cancelled. 😢😮‍💨

My Thanksgiving plate showing a quarter of chicken (drumstick and thigh because dark meat is the best), a few pieces of pan fried baby broccoli, spinach arugula glazed pecan cranberry salad with a healthy dollop of country French dressing, a good-sized serving of crispy roasted Brussels sprouts, and a large scoop of mashed sweet potato casserole. Delicious, delicious, all delicious!

Spinach arugula salad with glazed pecans, apple slices, cranberries, & pepitas. Way tasty than whatever iceberg or Romaine bland lettuce salad was served in some places.

Mashed sweet potatoes casserole with brown sugar topping. I made this one easier on me by buying Costco’s mashed sweet potatoes in a microwaveable tray. After 16 minutes total in the microwave (stirring once), I let it cool a little before I sprinkled a thick coat of brown sugar all over all of it.

Roasted Brussels sprouts, seasoned plus Worcestershire sauce and maple syrup drizzles. However good you think that sounds, double the tastiness. The best thing I served.

Just planted two shrubs (forsythia & spiraea) in my front yard, along with an enormous amount of milkweed seeds harvested from plants that seeded themselves in my yard. Also did fall cleanup of weeds. My gloves & shirt & jeans & hair are full of bidens. (Not a joke, IYKYK) #gardening #gardensky 🌱

Fully grown Northern Gold forsythia, where small bright yellow flowers cover the brown sticks of a 2- to 3-foot-tall shrub. They are a bright and joyful sign of spring.

Fully grown spiraea bush, where clusters of small bright pink-red flowers and deep green leaves cover a 2- to 3-foot-tall shrub. They offer three seasons of color (late spring blooms that continue to frost, leaves darken from bright green in the spring to dark green in the summer and then to rust-orange-brown in the autumn).

The brown seeds of a weed with the genus name of “bidens” that has invaded my yard, stuck in the ends of two of my hair locs. The seeds are very dry and have a pronged end that attaches easily to items such as fur or hair or clothes. During the last two autumns, they have gotten stuck all over my body and clothing during fall yard cleanup. I really dislike this weed.

Proof that “nodding beggar-ticks” plants are both have the genus Bidens and are considered a WEED with no other uses (all caps in the image from the PlantNet app, I completely agree with the emphasis).

Mini sweet peppers recipe: Wash, slice into fourths, & remove all seeds. Heat frying pan on med-high. Coat pan well in olive oil. Shake lots of garlic powder & onion powder. Add peppers. Shake lots of salt, black pepper, & mustard powder. Fry for 10 mins, flipping often, until lightly blistered.

A small glass bowl filled with dark yellow, orange, and red mini sweet peppers that have been well seasoned and lightly blistered in a frying pan. They look delicious and are delicious for snacking on their own or a side dish for a meal.

I cooked for 2 ½ hours this afternoon. Fried plantains like my Ghanaian mom makes, kale sautéed in bacon grease with gochugang and other spices, quinoa with garlic and lots of lime juice, and a mix of two Rancho Gordo beans added to a well-spiced base with more gochugang. #BeanSky #HeirloomBeans

Fried plantains like my Ghanaian mom makes, resting and releasing oil onto paper towels on a dinner plate. Around half of them were severely burnt on one side, so I pulled them aside into a bowl to eat immediately. 😋

I could not stop grabbing bits of this delicious kale from the glass serving bowl while the other food was cooking. Kale sautéed in bacon grease with a little salt, a whole bunch of black pepper, garlic powder, a lot of paprika. Delicious! 😋

A pot of cooked white quinoa, seasoned with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and an excess amount of lime juice. It was the perfect amount. 😋

My first batch of Rancho Gordo beans! I went a little wild. Sautéed fresh minced onion and ginger and garlic in olive oil, added an array of spices that include cumin and gochugaru Korean chili flakes and umami mushroom seasoning, added a cup and half of beef broth and five cups of water, added two bags of different Rancho Gordo beans (black caviar lentils and Flor de Junio heirloom beans), stirred, dropped three bay leaves in, and then set the Instant Pot timer for 17 minutes. Natural release of roughly 23 or 24 minutes led to this picture of deliciousness in a pressure cooker.

A bat with rabies was physically handled at the north entrance to 88-100 Harbour St. in Toronto on June 25 just after 9:20 a.m. ET. Toronto Public Health is looking for a person involved to receive treatment.

The unidentified person is described as around five-foot-eight in height with a beard. During the incident, they were wearing eyeglasses, a black t-shirt, black pants, white sneakers and were seen holding a black water bottle. They are signified in this photo by being surrounded with a blue drawn circle.

Toronto Public Health is urging the person or people they’re with to immediately call the health agency as rabies will lead to death if it is left untreated before symptoms appear. (The news articles say “may lead,” but my family is full of medical professionals and I’ve read some clinical literature around rabies. As a friend said, “Yeah it’s the only thing I know of that can’t be treated once it shows.”)
