Live in Reading, UK. Computer support by day, science fiction, genealogy, history, politics, museums* and pubs by night. Yes, yet another Twitter refugee. *figuratively speaking - I don't actually go to many museums at night.

Excellent news. M John Harrison made it to the Booker prize shortlist for The End of Everything. If he were to win, at 81 he would apparently be the oldest ever recipient. And it would be fantastic recognition for the genre.

1. A positive story(IMHO) for Wetherspoons for once. 2. About time too. 3. Other pubs PLEASE, follow their lead. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The pub chain says the decision follows complaints about "other people's videos and amplified phone conversations".

Very sad to see Anthony Head has died. Saw him as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the West End many years ago. RIP www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I am absolutely sick to death of Christmas adverts already and they have only been on for 4 days. They are all, without exception, sickeningly syrupy, long and pointless. This is going to drive me mad over the next 2 months. Roll on Boxing Day.

RIP Prunella Scales. Sybil was always my favourite character in Fawlty Towers.

Well that didn't go as planned. Decided to record West Side Story as there is no way it could be as good as the 1961 film. Maybe just watch the first 10 minutes to see if how the music sounds. 150 minutes later just approaching climax. Wow, incredible. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Terrible service at #wetherspoons Back of Beyond, Reading, last night. App order took 32 minutes to arrive. Woefully understaffed for two days before Christmas. And an rude manager, she may have had to deal with a police incident but no excuse when it is over.

So this is my first post on Bluesky. Thanks to friends who are following me. (Reluctantly keeping my Twitter account for now until more companies start using here rather than just registering a placeholder.) I am only likely to post occasionally; use it more to keep up with what is going on.
