Fellow political scientists: if you don't understand the formal model, think twice before you say "I feel it could be moved to the appendix" unless you also recommend that statistical tables be moved there. Everything can be expressed in words, even string theory... just with a lot less precision.

New dog owner here: If I understand this correctly, at some point a wolf must have been born whose evolutionary advantage was to look really cute when begging for scraps?

Schultüten are a thing in Spain, too. My son’s school gave them out. I was really surprised because I too thought it was a German thing!

I guess it’s only half as embarrassing as it could be because only one of the planes is owned by a Russian company

ChatGPT Edu is now so attuned to me that when I ask dog-related questions, it suggests new data sources that connect dogs and political economy questions.

You’re right on that. In the stadium though it felt like Germany had much more possession and played as if you’d win by completing more passes than the other team.

Nerve wracking rather if you’re supporting Germany to see the “let’s pass the ball around while they have all 11 men defending inside the box until we lose it” strategy being tried again

This and Germany-Ivory Coast reminds me of the EPL 2-3 years ago, when seemingly everyone (except Liverpool) played a low block against City and it got extremely frustrating to watch.

Why is it “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” and not “don’t chew up the flip flops of the person who feeds you” that seems far more common?

Also, the US healthcare system is the best because the US spends the most money on healthcare per capita and a V8 Chevy is the best car because it’s uses the most gas per mile.

RCV would work well. I don’t get the fascination with multi member districts. Anyone who has studied Japan knows that they bring out the worst kind of local patronage politics.

Somehow the autism question is now about something that women do, when the only known causal association is something that men do - have kids late in life, with women who may or may not be much younger.

If you look at the trend, it doesn’t look like statins were even a major factor. And how would they if they only reduce the absolute risk by a few percent? My money would be on people giving up smoking making the biggest difference

Group 1 consists of some who believe that it’s fine if everyone is very progressive because they’re fighting a battle, and others who think that academics are just a bit to the left of most voters and that it isn’t a problem. The latter have no idea what voters really think.
