The problem with space-travel in Science fiction is that space travel in reality is so hard. Is there a plausible solution? I examine popular methods and propose the solution I use in my own book trilogy. open.substack.com/pub/markpsmi...

The problem with space-travel in Sci-Fi! Is there a plausible solution?

When it comes to space travel in science fiction, there are countless different mechanisms used.

Authors love to see you sharing their books, by tagging the author, it not only helps them connect with the reader but it serves another useful purpose. When someone shares a book that was bought for example from Amazon, it allows us to keep track of our author dashboard royalties.

The Theo Newton Trilogy. Almost three years since I started out on storyboarding and the final part of the series is out soon. I’m pleased with how the final set of covers turned out, the green is very green, but it stands out because of it. Too bold a move?

60k words done & fast approaching the final chapters of the Theo Newton Trilogy.

220

Mark P. Smith (Author) @markpsmithauthor.bsky.social · 16/03/2026

I have just ticked past 50k words written for Theo book 3. So that’s 10k words in 7 days. These last few chapters are like a Dan Brown book but instead of Robert Langdon, we have a superhuman, who can jump through time collecting clues… That’s it for spoilers!

021

Mark P. Smith (Author) @markpsmithauthor.bsky.social · 13/03/2026

How about a little plot spoiler for book 3? I’ve not long ago finished a scene where Theo & this father avoid being press ganged in eighteenth century Britain. If you have read book 1 & 2, this is probably making you wonder where the continuation of the story has gone to have such a scene. Ah! 😉

The difference in price between the cheapest & most expensive filling station in the area is 36p per litre diesel. That’s £23.40 extra to fill up our van. And surprise surprise it’s an EG Shell. The owners of ASDA driving up fuel since the large acquisition. I’m boycotting all EG & ASDA stations.

Although I’ve been writing, it feels like my word count hasn’t been increasing, as if I’ve been fantasising the whole thing, but finally I’ve hit 40k words! I still have a long way to go with this final Theo Newton book, but the May deadline is looking a hell of a lot more manageable now. 🙏

Author copy arrived today of what I hope will be the final cover design for my first novel, I’m really happy with how this turned out. There is lots of fine detail to be examined (Such as the title of book tree is on there) and the gloss finish give it a quality feel.
