On holiday in Bali. Looking forward to spending more time writing, in between the relaxing!

Had a great time last night at the Melbourne Art Library spoken word event, including reading my short story "Telling the Bees" to the audience. Such a wealth of creativity and diversity over the evening. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Absolutely thrilled and grateful to be shortlisted for this prize! I went for a walk in the Moonah forest yesterday, as soon as I found out, to say thank you. #amwriting #writersky #BookSky #folkhorror #cosmichorror

Finished draft, hot off the printer. Warm Novelette 🤣 Definitely the weirdest story I’ve written to date — a slice of Australian Gothic. Now it’s editing time. #amwriting #booksky

Final proofread in Word before submitting. Appreciating the help from the Microsoft algorithm.
A screenshot of the Microsoft Word Spelling and Grammar Check window, showing a suggestion to improve the conciseness of the piece: More concise language would be clearer for your reader: instead of "I really fucking need it, consider: "I fucking need it".

It’s crazy that I’ve never seen The Church play live before but I rectified that last night. The first date of their Singles tour was wonderful. I have such warm memories of their songs going back to The Unguarded Moment in 1981. It’s worth catching them if you can get a ticket!
The stage before Australian band The Church kick off their latest tour, replete with drum kit, separate percussion kit, and mic stands for the two guitarist and singer/bassist Steve Kilbey.

Writing at the State Library of Victoria today. It’s beautiful here. Pity about the people talking near me… headphones essential.

Oh well played, Guardian. Well played.

At MONA, north of Hobart, watching Scattered Order play an electronic set. Drones, noise and vocals over the top of skittering beats. I bought their album “Selling the Axe to Buy the Wood” in 1987. Good to see them still going, challenging the MONA audience.

The weekly forecast for Melbourne, Australia shows mid-20s Celsius all week, except for Monday which jumps inexplicably to 42!

Three weeks after Olive fell from our 3rd floor balcony, she’s healing well. It’s amazing to see her jumping up on our bed and rolling over for tummy rubs. What a lucky girl. First photo is from yesterday. Second photo is from 3 days after her fall.
Olive the tabby cat looks at the camera. Her chin and nose show very little sign of the trauma from her fall. Olive the tabby cat lies on our bed. The skin from the base of her chin to her nostrils is red, having been scraped in the fall from our balcony.

2024 has been terrible for me. But yesterday was the worst day. While we were out, Olive jumped up on our balcony railing & fell 3 storeys onto the concrete below. We found her hiding across the road. After X-rays & a night in hospital, she's back at home. Incredibly, she has no internal injuries.
Our tabby cat lies on her scratching platform in the sun, looking pensively to the side.

Tummy rub? Don’t be fooled—it’s a trap!
Olive the stripey tabby cat lies on her back in the afternoon sun on my bed. Her rear legs are spread wide apart, with her front paws together. She has a contented look on her face.

I’ve been a The The fan since the early ’80s. But this I’d the first thing I’ve seen them live. The first set—their new album—was excellent. Note waiting for the Best Of set to finish the night off. I can’t wait to hear those classic songs live.
The stage at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne set up for the The The gig. It’s a beautiful midnight blue colour.

I saw this amazing documentary about Brian Eno tonight. It’s generated live in-cinema by the director, so it’s a different movie every time. Well worth seeing.
