Another crash in morning darkness. This was at 6am EDT. Dawn was 6:52am EDT. Sunrise was 7:17am EDT. 😔 If Florida had permanent Standard Time, dawn would’ve been 5:52am EST, sunrise would’ve been 6:17am EST; everyone would’ve had more light and likely more sleep. 🧡

The Port St. Lucie Police Department is investigating a crash that happened the morning of Oct. 7, which resulted in a 14-year-old boy sustaining life-threatening injuries.

At about 6 a.m. near the intersection of Southwest Port St. Lucie Boulevard and Southwest Squirrel Avenue the 14-year-old boy was walking north along Port St. Lucie Boulevard on his way to school, near construction barrels, the agency stated in a news release.

The boy, a freshman at Treasure Coast High School, was struck from behind by a 2002 Ford Excursion driven by a 72-year-old man. The man originally thought he hit a construction barrel, not a person.

The man quickly made a U-turn and returned, where he found the 14-year-old boy unconscious on the side of the road, according to the news release. The man…
