An ancient wood-pasture, once open and alive with people, is now swallowed by forest. Bears still roam, but they’re seen as oddities. This is shifting baseline syndrome (see link to my YouTube movie, in English, in first comment to this post).

Trophic #rewilding can help ecosystems adapt to our rapidly changing biosphere. From #megafauna-driven seed dispersal to buffering against invasive species, we explore how rewilding supports #biodiversity & resilience 🍃🐂 @currentbiology.bsky.social www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #Conservation

Restored vs Near-natural #wetlands: lower plant diversity incl rare species - but #grazing had positive effect as did available species pool size, prior presence of near-natural habitat & restored #hydrology; high soil Fe+N had negative effects🌿🐂💦 besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Nutrients, isolation and lack of grazing limit plant diversity in restored wetlands
Restoration of plant diversity in wetlands is challenging, but our results point to potential remedies: plan restoration areas near colonisation sources of the target biota, restore hydrology to near...

What a great Grazing Project in Solling (www.naturpark-solling-vogler.de/index.php/hu...) - a true wilderness-biodiversity vibe. We need so much more of this!

Grazed forests are biodiversity hotspots in Germany (& elsewhere). Long neglected by forestry, getting livestock into forests is now rediscovered as a conservation tool. Nice explanatory video by "Forst erklärt" on our Hutewald-project (In German, use auto-translate). www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...

@ark-rewildingnl.bsky.social youtu.be/xlCMhbiTh6I?...
