Nice talk! Thanks for your passion. I’ve found the world is angry enough that it’s ok to have a sense of humor. But you do you 👍

I agree. Road expansion is not my top priority. Fix it first, complete streets, safety and more transit have been my priorities.

No, the new bridge has new BRT, and dramatically improved biking/walking infrastructure. Plus the light rail. So it’s very much focused on dramatic multimodal improvements ASAP.

I think for new highways that is true, this is replacing an existing bridge. And the first phase is the most essential elements, the bridge, approaches and light rail readiness.

I could not agree more!! And when we try, they hire lobbying teams to stop it and try and rewrite the law to make harder to transfer… sigh

Light rail is essential. And our federal delegation is working hard to make sure we get the federal funding to build it with the bridge.

I mean the bridge is over 100 years old and in a seismic hazard zone. So it has to be replaced. But sure, compare that to Robert Moses, great way to have productive dialogue.

I’m glad that you’ve acknowledged that we are doing better, that wasn’t clear before. We can do better, let’s keep going. That being said, the ROI on passenger ferries is much lower than the additional transit and bike/walk infrastructure we can build in the short term.

Marko Liias 🏳️‍🌈 @markoliias.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
IBR is being phased, so there’s been no budget impact as costs increased. Which car ferry routes do you suggest eliminating? That’s the only way to avoid new ferry vessels.

Marko Liias 🏳️‍🌈 @markoliias.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
I agree! Let’s make transit fare free for youth, map every sidewalk and gap in the state, require DOT projects to use a complete streets approach, align our preservation funding with the highest accident corridors, establish new tribal transit grants, oh wait we did! Definitely even more to do too.

Thankfully we are focused on making sure our roads, bridges and ferries carry cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, bikers, rollers, and walkers! But yeah, we’ve built an expensive and aging system and the costs of maintaining it are astounding.
300
Marko Liias 🏳️‍🌈 @markoliias.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
Yeah state support would overcome the startup costs, unfortunately we have massive unfunded costs in road and bridge maintenance, including new ferry vessel construction to keep our fleet operating. So there’s no money to expand services like this, even when they’d be great.
210
Marko Liias 🏳️‍🌈 @markoliias.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
Kitsap Transit also has passenger ferry authority, both KT and King County can do it, the barrier isn’t taxing authority. It’s startup costs, including the incredibly high cost of constructing vessels. Also operating costs make per passenger costs too expensive to pencil in most places.

America is an idea and promise bigger than any person, faction, or party. As we celebrate 250 years of independence, we honor generations that fought, marched, and died for it. May we be worthy of their sacrifices and do our part to ensure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Last night, I met Heather, her husband will have to pay $1,400 a month for health insurance if Congress doesn’t extend health care subsidies. The decisions our leaders make have real and devastating consequences on people like Heather. We can’t let political games hide the impacts on real people.

It seems pretty simple to me: make sure hungry kids have food, make sure health insurance premiums don’t skyrocket, and reopen the government. It’s sad that this common sense approach seems so out of reach for Congress.

Terrible news from Utah today. I agree with Speaker Mike Johnson: “Political violence has become all too common in American society, and this is not who we are. We need every political figure, we need everyone who has a platform to say this loudly and clearly.”
