My understanding is he had a pretty ambitious plan that would’ve continued until at least the next season, but was caught short by Disney’s announcement and other developments. He’s a highly experienced showrunner, and knows how to go over the flow, but he hit a brick wall with this one.

The problem with the last seasonwas RTD was in handed a series of challenges (Disney pulling funding at the last minute, the lead leaving prematurely, etc.) and he did not find a way out of it in the end. Plus, I’m still not convinced bringing DT back was anything other than a gimmick.
