Also, he purged the Kennedy Center of a collection of African art that was given in tribute to JFK, but he installed this, from the Tony Montana Meets Saddam Hussein Collection.
Indescribably, almost parodistically ugly, vulgar, gold-foil relief art, straight out of a dictator's cocaine palace, of Trump raising his fist and saying "Fight! Fight! Fight!" after having his ear grazed by a bullet, and of RFK Jr. with some croaky quote next to him. The art pieces look like something you could unwrap to reveal artificially flavored chocolate from five Easters ago.

A detail about The Graduate from my book research: The one scene in which they couldn't plausibly make Anne Bancroft, 36, look old and sun-damaged was the goodbye in the rain (it was 60 years ago and makeup in color was still tricky). So you get a glimpse that's close to what she really looked like.
A rain-soaked Bancroft looking younger.

I wish you could see the hand gesture I'm improvising as I read this.
From a Deadline story about an AP interview: Joe and Anthony Russo are opening up about Avengers: Doomsday and explaining why they started shooting the Marvel film without a finished script.

In a new interview, the Russo brothers shared why they “view the script as a living organism.”

“We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors,” Joe Russo told AP. “We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens.”

She seems to have thought this through and reached the decision she felt was best for her.
O’Donnell, who currently lives in Ireland, said her weight loss thanks to Mounjaro played a major role in her decision to get the procedure. In particular, she had a lot of “excess skin” under her chin, “and it made me look sad,” she told People. “People in Ireland said, ‘Rosie, are you all right, love?’ I’m like, ‘It’s my face. I actually feel happy here.’ I didn’t want my face to be frozen. I had to wrestle with myself because as a feminist I always felt this is the male gaze and not anything I believe in,” she continued, adding that her 13-year-old child, Clay, had concerns.“Clay said, ‘Mommy, girls look up to you. What does your legacy stand for if you do this?’ I changed my mind for six months and then decided the real power of feminism (is) to decide what we want to do with our bodies and when,” O’Donnell explained.

The last two lines of this May New York Times profile of Hayden Panettiere are so haunting. I always flinch when stories of addiction and recovery are narrativized and commodified as quickly as hers was. What a tragic story, with too many dirty hands. RIP.
Before we said goodbye, I asked Panettiere how she feels today, having relived her past triumphs and traumas, and put them on paper for the world to witness.

“I just can’t believe I made it through alive,” she said. She was still pacing.

This is the way. This is ALSO what "Vote blue no matter who" means.
n a statement, Stevens announced she would support El-Sayed in the general election and thanked her supporters.

“This was a thorough and rigorous campaign that brought out the full span of views within the Democratic Party — and that is why we have primaries,” she said. “I am proud to have put up my hand to serve and prouder to continue to work together to make sure this Senate seat remains blue, that we flip the United States Senate and continue the work for Michigan.”

...and here's a salient bit from it that seems darker today than when I wrote it thirteen years ago.
Jonze wrote Her almost three years ago over a long New York winter. He worked from dozens of pages of his own notes, as well as the memory of a brief interaction he had with an artificial-intelligence computer program a decade ago in which "for the first 30 seconds, I had the buzz like, It's responding to me! Then it quickly fell apart and you realize, Here are the tricks, here's how this works. But what if I could sustain that forever? What would that be like? I wanted to take that idea as far as I could possibly imagine and feel.

People who violate your "shared values" do not share your values.
On ABC, Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat from Delaware, said he had had dinner with Mr. Graham last week in Ankara, Turkey on Mr. Graham’s 71st birthday. Mr. Coons recalled his intense political battles with Mr. Graham even as he remembered him fondly. “We had knock-down, drag-out fights,” he said.

He pointed to the confirmation process for Brett M. Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court as “exceptionally ugly” and said “there were other things he did I really, really disagreed with and thought were bad choices and violated our shared values. But I also saw him in his best moments, fighting fiercely for the underdog in America.”

YouTube dropping its big ugly influencer-ass-looking black spaceship of a tent directly on top of the Lincoln Center fountain is as vivid a representation of old culture versus new as you will see this year. (Bonus touch: YouTube has also blacked out the doors and windows of Geffen Hall with ads.)

Always a good feeling when your early call turns out to be right. "The name may still be unfamiliar to the general public, but..." --From a February 1979 NYT profile of Meryl Streep
Lead to a NYT Magazine piece by Mel Gussow:
Meryl Streep, Meryl Streep, Meryl Streep. The name may still be unfamiliar to the general public, but soon it should echo from coast to coast, like those classic trains, the Super Chief and the Twentieth Century Limited, rocketing over their tracks. In glass-towered talent agencies, Hollywood studios, and offices of Broadway producers — wherever deals are made and careers launched — people in the know are asking for Streep, more Streep. That's Streep as in sweep.
