Schiehallion this evening
An image of a distant conical mountain (Schiehallion) rising above a calm loch (Loch Rannoch). There is a tree and some other foliage in the foreground, as well as the roofs of some cars. In the middle distance, there are some other slopes with trees growing on them. Schiehallion in the distance has no trees.

Culross looking particularly continental today
In the foreground, a well-tended terraced garden, with gravel paths and many different plants and shrubs. In the middle ground, a yellow-painted, pan tiled range of buildings with stepped gables (Culross Palace). In the distance, a glimpse of water (the Firth of Forth) with some industry on the far shore.

A light dusting of snow on the Wicklow Mountains this morning
A view down a country road with a green field and bare trees in the foreground. In the distance, a range of soft rolling hills is topped with snow like a cake dusted with sugar. The sky is blue with some light clouds.

Back in the days of pre-Musk Twitter, there was an account that posted pictures of the Upper Lake at Glendalough nearly every day. It’s one of the things I miss about good Twitter. Anyway, today I was able to make my own picture of the scene
A still lake with steep hillsides on all sides, misty in the distance. In the foreground, there is a pebbly strand. On the far side of the lake, a waterfall might just be visible. The sky is grey and cloudy.

I loved my 1962 Maggiolino. It was even better when it had an engine in it (my phone just popped this picture up randomly)
An orange VW Beetle, pictured on a drive with a man (me) inside the engine compartment, with a grumpy face. Another man (my late father-in-law) looks on, probably giving some sage advice

It’s not to everyone’s taste, but the Grade A listed stand at Gala Fairydean Rovers (designed by Peter Womersley) is an impressively graceful structure. Pictures don’t do it justice.

Never mind the Royal Mile, Edinburgh’s sandy mile is looking spectacular this morning
A view of Portobello beach in Edinburgh, with the golden sand in the foreground, sea on the right, tenement blocks on the left and a blue sky dappled with fluffy white clouds above

Strolling from Leith to Cramond this morning with Forth crossings faintly in the distance
A view along the Firth of Forth, with the water looking blue in the winter sun. In the distance, an island sits in the channel. There are bridges just visible behind the island, and in the further distance a hint of some hills.
