Part 2 of my @BBCRadio4 series The Great Crime Mystery tomorrow morning at 9am. Lots of reaction to part 1 including on Pick of the Week this evening. This week - why property crime has fallen 80% in 30 years. (It really has.)

In my three-part series starting on @BBCRadio4 at 9am tomorrow, I argue if we’re serious about cutting crime, we need to accept it’s fallen and work out why. We do have some strong clues and the solution to The Great Crime Mystery may not be what you expect.

Healthy life expectancy in the UK is the LOWEST since @ONS started recording it in 2011. Men can expect to live in 'good' general health until aged 60.7, women 60.9 - two or three years LESS than it was a decade ago.

New figures show the HOMICIDE rate in Eng/Wales last year was the LOWEST since 1977. The @ONS data also shows the FEWEST teenage homicide victims since 2013 and the FEWEST stabbing victims since 2015. www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...

Broken Britain? Not according to today’s crime figures.
The risks of being a victim of crime are, quite probably, lower now than they have been since records began.

Data from @ukhomeoffice suggests improved asylum processing is cutting the backlog, even with new claims at close to record levels. Fewer people in the system should, in time, reduce the need for hotels and the multi-billion pound bill.
