2) After I finished, my father put down his newspaper. He told me that it would have been better for me to have been aborted than to have been gay. 29 years ago today, my husband and I exchanged rings and vows. A year ago on October 11, my father was buried. A fitting date. #NationalComingOutDay

31 years ago I made October 11 my goal to come out to my parents. I had several books to share w them as resources. As I began to share about myself, my father put his head in a newspaper as I spoke. As a kid, he would demand we kids look him in the eyes when speaking. 1) #NationalComingOutDay

Now our country is debating whether to livestream a public execution. Is this livestream a way to desensitize us for the next execution? Will there be a parade before? Who will be next? Will gays be next on the execution block? The gypsies? Transgender persons? Democrats? When will we learn?
I wonder if (Hitler)'ll have a flame as eternal as the hours of the crematorium must have seemed to the prisoners standing "parade" and forced to watch the chimney glowing over the bodies of fellow sufferers.

We visited the Lee Miller photo exhibit at @artinstitutechi.bsky.social. She was a WWII photojournalist who documented the human devastation at Dachau and Buchenwald. Last night Ted and I watched 'Lee' starring Kate Winslet. It reminds us that we are living next to death camps now in our country.
Went to (Dachau) this morning...in this case the camp is so close to the town that there is no question about the inhabitants knowing what went on...
The railway siding into the camps runs past quite a few swell villas and the last train of dead and semi-dead deportees was long enough to extend past them.
The cars are still of dead, skeletons...
The path beside the trains is littered with the fleshless bodies of those who tried to get out and walk to their execution.

"The Famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert". As a clarinetist, I love Benny Goodman. This is an important album. First time a big band played in Carnegie Hall. It was one of Jazz's first double albums.

My parents collected antiques and were always going to stores. One time in the late 60's they got me a stack of comics. Most had their covers ripped off. One of the few with a cover was Atom #26. I read that so many times. Loved Bug-Eyed Bandit. Also got Secret Six #1, Tiger Girl #1 and a Star Trek

Dementia Diaper Donnie, the Narcissistic Megalomaniac MAGAt. It will be interesting to see how the TX county where our farmhouse is located votes. Of the 3,000 persons in the county, in the last Presidential election, 285 persons voted for Kamala. In the primary, Cornyn got more votes than Paxton.

Lee Miller was a photojournalist for Vogue during WWII. After the Fall of the Reich she and a colleague were in Hitler's apartment. They took photos of each other in his bathtub. She also took a photo in Eva Braun's bed. She took many photos of the atrocities after the camps were freed.

There is an amazing photo exhibit of the work of Lee Miller at @artinstitutechi.bsky.social. She began as a model; a muse of Man Ray; a photographer and WWII photojournalist for Vogue. Kate Winslet starred in a 2023 biopic named "Lee". Portraits of Charlie Chaplin, Collette and Pablo Picasso.

Homme au Bain" that we loved in the Gustave Caillebotte exhibitRoss Watson takes classic paintings w contemporary twist. Here using François Sagat.
The painting recreates the setting of Caravaggio’s classical masterwork The Crucifixion of St. Peter (1602). Australian painter Ross Watson featured adult film star and HIV-prevention activist François Sagat in a 2010 artwork titled Untitled #01/10 (after Caravaggio, 1602), which depicts Sagat being raised on a crucifix.Detail of François Sagat

A year ago on this date, my father died. In the Spring I did some character study of him in his casket to get a feel for his changed facial features to use in my graphic memoir. A few days before his death he had a haircut, which made him look like Amish Abe Lincoln. We had a strained relationship.

Today we watched Evensong and Benediction at St. Thomas Fifth Avenue. The first female Archbishop of Canterbury was there for their feast day. An amazing homily. I noticed that the Nares Anglican chant sounded like parts of "Don't Cry for me Argentina". 50:00 www.youtube.com/live/q7PL_Zk...
You have an excellent ear for musical structures. While Andrew Lloyd Webber did not explicitly credit James Nares (the 18th-century English composer who wrote famous Anglican chants) for the melody of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina", the structural and melodic similarities between the two are striking. There are two primary reasons why the famous Evita showstopper sounds like an Anglican chant: The Harmonic and Melodic FrameworkAnglican chants—including the popular double chants composed by James Nares—rely heavily on a rigid, step-wise root progression. They usually begin on a sustained reciting note, move up or down by a step, and resolve through a predictable cadence. The Pitch Profile: The main verse of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" ("It won't be easy, you'll think it strange...") mirrors this perfectly. It features a largely flat, repetitive melody line that emphasizes a singular reciting tone, followed by a stepwise descent and a rhythmic resolution at the end of the phrase. The "Nares" Connection: James Nares' famous chant in A major (frequently used for the Nunc Dimittis or Psalm 67) relies on a sweeping, step-wise lift in its second half that matches the exact melancholic, soaring interval transition Lloyd Webber uses to bridge the verses into the chorus. Lloyd Webber’s Choral BackgroundThis resemblance is likely not a coincidence. Andrew Lloyd Webber grew up deeply immersed in the British choral tradition. His father, William Lloyd Webber, was a prominent church organist, composer, and director of music at All Saints, Margaret Street. As a boy, Andrew regularly sang and listened to traditional church music, meaning the specific chord turnarounds, static reciting tones, and phrase-lengths of Anglican chant composers like Nares, Wesley & Purcell were hardwired into his musical DNA.When it came time to write a sweeping, quasi-religious anthem for a political figure who was viewed as a saint-like icon by her people, he naturally reached into that exact sonic toolkitYou have an excellent ear for musical structures.
