An old fogey question with regards to all these dire warnings about "BigAI". Am I the only only person who reads "BigAI" and what comes immediately to mind is a mildly inebriated and very confused sportscaster? Should I just call a cab for a ride to The Shady Rest Home? #BigAI #BigAl

Good crowd on the Dartmouth ferry, including acouple of geese - headed over to the "Culture is Critical" protest at Province House today. The fact that we are on the Viola Desmond seems appropriate.

It appears that Andy Fillmore, our new HRM mayor, has just realized that he is not up to the job. His response? He is asking the Premier to change the job description to give him even MORE power. There is in fact another, more obvious solution, Andy... #Halifax #HRM

LOL. Still struggling with the difference between "Opposition Leader" ( a parliamentary designation) and "Party Leader"? Is this a reading or comprehension issue you are struggling with? Try reading the first couple of sentences of the article... they make it all clear for the easily confused.

TBH, this is probably the main reason I read so many books ... in my dotage, I really just want to better understand the ways of women - and the mysteries of the female mind. #booksky

Its fish or cut bait time. IMHO, big majority governments are NEVER good for ordinary Cndns. They get us reduced accountability, cutbacks + cronyism. So, I will be voting for Keith Morrison in Dartmouth – Cole Harbour. A strong NDP voice to ensure that a Lib Govt DELIVERS for working Cndns. #cdnpoli

Easily the best book out of the Canadian Maritimes that I have read in the last couple of years. The story of a resilient Mi'kmaw family devastated by loss and tragedy, yet able to live, laugh and love. "The Berry Pickers", by Amanda Peters (from the Annapolis Valley). Two BIG thumbs up. #booksky

There is a great new book telling the story of this generation of immigrants (draft dodgers, back to the landers, seekers and lost souls) in Nova Scotia. "Far Out" - by Chris Murphy. Featuring many old friends who made a BIG difference in this province.

There are a few musty old anthologies from school days on my poetry shelf. But otherwise, an eclectic mix of Elizabeth Bishop, Dante, Leonard Cohen, Keats, Yeats and more. And of course, Emily Dickinson. #booksky

Kicked off February with this Neptune Theatre production of the Viola Desmond story. Two thumbs up from me. Given what else is happening in the world these days, a good reminder that social change starts with individual acts of resistance. #Courage #Resist #Halisky #BlackHistoryMonth

Spent much of January in the company of Flannery O'Connor. As southern belles go, "Sheesh!" I now understand E Waugh's skepticism that such stories could be written by a "young lady". Maybe the notion of Southern Gothic was not widely appreciated at the time. Anyhow, two thumbs up from me. #booksky

Hello, #booksky. By way of intro, here is my "shelfie" of books read in 2024. (Apart from a few on-loaned or returned) There was a travel-related emphasis on Greece. Plus a few writers / books considered classics by many, that I had somehow missed. Notably Maya Angelou + Douglas Adams. On to 2025

For my opening contribution to #booksky, I will publicly acknowledge that I had always assumed that the writer Flannery O'Connor was some dissolute, ink-stained, Dublin-based male scribbler. Clearly, its never to late to read and learn.

Passing thru the Nation's Capital + seized the opportunity to see "Salesman in China" @ NAC. Two big thumbs up: its a rich, complex, captivating play that tells the story of Arthur Miller's trip to China in the 1980s to direct a breakthrough production of "Death of a Salesman". See it if you can!

Yes, I loved some of David Lynch's later works. But TBH, I think the act of watching Eraserhead at an impressionable age (at the lovely old Cinema V in Montreal) probably took 10 years off of my life. If nothing else, it certainly taught me that some movies are best watched stoned.

Kudos to Jagmeet, Chrystia and most of the Lib caucus for doing what they can to nudge JT into resigning. Thus creating a smidgen of space for the Libs to try to stop PP winning a crushing majority. Whether the election is in April or Oct, it won't make a shred of difference if JT is still PM.

I thought you were asking for things Canadians can agree upon. On JT's prospects of defeating PP The Grifter, there seems to pretty much be a national consensus.
