[Joking about cognitohazards while referencing the cognitohazard] .

Galaxy brain meme. Brain 1: " Roko's Basilisk is stupid." Brain 2: "Roko's basilisk is a cognitohazard because a machine god will torture a clone of you forever if you know about it." Brain 3: " Roko's basilisk is a cognitohazard because some people who think too hard about the idea experience real physiological anxiety symptoms."

I'm not a _good_ writer, but a muse does feel like teasing me from time to time by tossing a good one my way. "He kissed her, and it was cozy and comfortable, like a cabin in the woods. And it was terrifying and unsettling, like a cabin in the woods." (Standard disclaimer: anything I drop on […]

My favorite thing about the epic of Gilgamesh is that it is a story that includes the notion that there are some prizes with a price that someone else has to pay that is too high. We could use more stories like that.

@mike I agree with everything up to completely different approach, and that's my ignorance... I don't really know enough about the space yet to have confidence in any particular direction. The amount of distance one can cover by adding layers surprises me. But I also know enough history of […]

Gut checking whether I'm missing something here. Conventional wisdom is that even in the context of a general handler that is supposed to shield a chunk of code from other chunks of code (such as a validation framework where you still want to run all the validations even if one suffers a […]

@dlakelan In hindsight, we did fall for the assumption that large centralized architectures built by benevolent dictators would work because we seemed to believe that technical competency and benevolence were hand in hand, and not a particular artifact of a particular, I'm not sure yet […]

@mike This is very true but I think there might be more to unpack here around human epistemology and the concept of Truth itself. Feed a human being nothing but a false narrative that doesn't match reality, keep them separate from the consequences of that narrative grinding against reality, and […]
