Finally got around to watching ‘Conclave’, absolutely sublime from start to finish, everyone should watch it and it should have won more Oscars.

Interesting evening at BAFTA talking about the current state of the UK film/TV/games industry. It’s all in a bad place right now obviously so diversification is needed at all levels. Still not sure about ‘survive till 25’…

A stage at BAFTA, London with 5 people on it in chairs with a projection above it saying their names and the title of the forum ‘The next chapter fir film, games and TV, looking ahead in 2025’.

Plaque on the back of the seat in front of me in brass that reads ‘Endowed by Mick Jagger’.

Went to see The Last Showgirl this evening with @editorialcat.bsky.social and it was absolutely superb, casting was brilliant, Pamela Anderson was terrific, as was the cinematography.

Someone has started the 2024 Christmas tree graveyard on Boxing Day again.

A single dead Christmas tree laying on its side against a concrete wall near a park gate were they are left to be picked up by the council.

My brother-in-law gave us a couple of his amazing creations for Christmas this year, I love them! They look a lot like characters in kids shows from my childhood in the 80s/90s.

Two sculptures made from wood and recycled materials with eyes and mouth so that they are characters of some magical kind.

While I continue my work as a cinematographer, I’ll be joining the ‘Science of the Creative and Performing Arts Research Group’ at Goldsmiths as a psychologist/doctoral researcher part-time. My research focuses on the occupational wellbeing of film/TV workers & improving industry practices.

An honour to have my work as cinematographer selected for the first time by FrightFest this year! One of the biggest horror festivals in the world. Had a lot of fun shooting the film ‘Safe’ too with a load of talented people, many from BAFTA Connect. #cinematographer #filmmaking #baftaconnect

Saw ‘Blur To The End’ this evening, great documentary, really well done. It felt like it could have gone longer in the edit there was so much to talk about. Blur look very worn tho since the days of my teenage years in the 90s unfortunately but that’s the relentless march of time. *sigh*

Plot for the documentary film Blur to the end, title is above a beach with two people sitting on the sand looking out at the sea.

Reform (4M votes) have leap frogged the LibDems (3.5M votes) to become the 3rd most popular party in just a few years, politicians need to do better at pulling people back from that dark place, not try to join them.

This response to the David Tennent/Kemi Badenoch row over Badenoch’s awful transphobic views is one of the many reasons I keep voting for Dawn Butler, she’s awesome.

A tweet from Dawn Butler that reads:

Not all Black women think the same.
I agree with David Tennant.
That's it, that's the tweet.

Tories didn’t have a hope in hell, well done London.

Screen shot of London mayor results:

Final results mean Khan's win is official

The London mayoral constituency of Lambeth & Southwark - the last to declare in this year's race
- has been held by Labour's Sadiq Khan.

Khan received 106,861 votes - or 61.2% - whil
Susan Hall received 26,347 - 15.1% - marking a swing to Labour 7.5%.

The penultimate constituency, Havering & Redbridge, was held by the Conservatives.

Another great evening at BAFTA, this time listening to producers and commissioners talking about the future of feature documentary filmmaking. The situation is pretty dire right now but we have to remain optimistic about the future of our community and industry.
