I was born in Leiden, now live in Kent. I wish #Leiden a good #Leidensontzet. All I can do is cook #hutspot. Next year I’ll be there!

I’m taking the bus instead of my car more often. I mostly ignore sell-by dates, but do the look, snif, taste test. Switched from cow’s milk to oat milk. Half my meat comes from the farm shop. I eat mostly seasonal veg and fruit. I’m growing cherry tomatoes. I have solar panels since 2011.

In podcasts like yours our hope lies. Keep up the good work. And can I just say this: your laughter at the end of your ad for American Friction plaid by other podcasts is so heartwarming. No matter how often I hear it, it always makes me smile. Thanks Nikki, Jarve and Chris!

@emmakennedy.bsky.social @sophiasgaler.bsky.social fascinating podcast on languages threatened with extinction. Have you heard of the Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning? They’re based in the Netherlands, more precisely Friesland. Www.mercator-research.eu.

Count Binface was a surprise guest at Byline Times' event exploring parallels in US and UK politics with @lincolnproject.us and @quietriotpod.bsky.social in Leicester Square. His message to Clacton and beyond? Vote! And value a (flawed) democracy where he can take on – and laugh at – Nigel Farage.

Why not move Parliament into Buckingham Palace so the Palace of Westminster can be renovated? PM only needs to pop across the road to see the King; MPs still have a grand place in the heart of London. (JRM will have no reasons to object) Adds a Republican touch, too- Royals out, the people in.

That’s a follow straight away. Only this afternoon I discussed the lack of titles and dates on documents with a historian. Document version or file name aren’t enough. Author, title and date of publication on the DOCUMENT ITSELF are essential for retrieval and research. It’s not that hard.

The Cotton Genesis (Cotton MS Otho B VI, 5th century) was one of the tragic victims of the Ashburnham House fire in 1731. Today, we’re delighted to release new multispectral imaging of the manuscript, allowing us to read its texts for the first time in hundreds of years. www.bl.uk/stories/blog...

The third panel features 3 authors who write about secrets and lies; either crime novels or novels about authoritarian governments or a culture based on fake info. I like Krisztina Tóth best and am looking forward to reading her book Eye of the Monkey.

Especially so since some guests came from far flung countries who have made a new life in a European country, such as Fiston Mwanza Mujila and Sulaiman Addonia. Their work enriches European culture by including African, Asian, Latin American voices.

What is so fantastic about it that over two days 26 writers from all over Europe come together to present their work, all translated into English, giving us as many perspectives, and voices that make European literature so rich.

Rosie chairs the first panel named ‘Turning Points’ with Jente Posthuma (NL), Fiston Mwanza Mujila (Austria) and Wendy Erskine (Ireland). It is an antidote to what’s happening outside in London today (Google it).
Five people (3 writers, 1 translator, 1 presenter) sit on a stage, with a screen in the middle, blue with the text European Writers’ Festival displayed. A black stage curtain at the back. Two small black round tables stand in front of the people with glass water bottles and glasses and the books they are discussing. The presenter Rosie Goldsmith wears a red tartan trouser suit. Fiston Mwanza Mujila wears a pair of green trousers and a black shirt. His translator Roland Glasser wears a black printed t-shirt with blue jeans. Jente Posthuma wears bluejeans, a white shirt and red socks. Wensy Erskine wears a black leather skirt, a white shirt with a black tie.
