After 3.5 years, I defended my PhD in Psychology, with my thesis "Learning From The Unexpected: How Prediction Error Size Shapes Episodic Memory". So grateful to colleagues, collaborators, and friends who were part of this journey!

In a seminar, I had the chance to report how I started the collaboration with Ukrainian colleagues and how we collected data there. Weirdly, that story started in the russian city of Perm in 2013 - and the project somehow feels like the culmination of much of my adult life.

We secured a grant from Lund University, allowing us to invite two collaborators, Karine Malyesheva and Illia Zarubin, from Taras Shevchenko University Kyiv for a week. Great discussions on future possibilities. @mikael-johansson.bsky.social @linniplidot.bsky.social @lund-memory-lab.bsky.social

It was great to present my poster on distinct encoding after large predictions errors at ICON last week. Thanks to all who passed by to have a chat (i.e., shouting at each other at the top of one‘s lungs).

The abstract submission of GEM 2025, which is organised by my research consortium @for2812.bsky.social is now open. It's a great interdisciplinary conference on constructive memory - and I will organise the PhD symposium, so I'd be happy to see some Blueskyers there :) for2812.rub.de/gem2025/

Went to my first PUG conference in Hamburg last week - presented some very fresh analyses on memory representations after prediction errors, and got lots of interesting new input on all things cognitive neuroscience.

Rather excited that my poster won the first poster prize at the TeaP conference in Regensburg last week. Certainly a new and interesting experience to present research in front of a jury. Thanks to @pastotter.bsky.social & colleagues for organising!
