johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 03/10/2026Phil Sci. (and also Phil. Mind I believe) are also clear that the way to answer this is to look at how it really works empirically. On the basis of that there really is no existing edge case that would give this practical import, only severe misrepresentations of how current tech works 000
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 03/10/2026I think that's a very strange perspective on philosophy, it's 1) not in the business of "nailing things down" at all and 2) even if they had that one ready to go it's not like anybody would listen. 100
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 02/10/2026Answering maybe too earnestly but I don't see how this could fit any sensible definition of vibe coding 010

johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 21/09/2026I can't lie, the jump from "LLMs are neat" to "Let's do physicalism v dualism" really got me, elite poasting: bsky.app/profile/mari... 010
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 20/09/2026I am neither really that surprised that the machine programs at the level that it does but I guess I am built different idk 000
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 20/09/2026If you go from 1) "this tool is very neat and precise" to 2) "it's gotta be more than just an LLM" and then to the weaponized skepticism of 3) "maybe we also LLM?", that's a failure of imagination between 1) and 2) (which M. Mitchell clearly anticipates) 101
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 20/09/2026Physicalism v dualism is simply orthogonal to this, you don't need to larp using the worst versions of both! Brains and transformers can still be different if physicalism is true! 120
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 20/09/2026My sincere philosophical advice would be to focus on the mechanism: they are fairly well understood and thus tell you that it would be extraordinary if sth like understanding would emerge from the machine 110

johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 18/08/2026I think Tailwind has various real limitations when app complexity increases (e.g. theming story is non-existent, does not enforce enough consistency anymore, you basically need class-variance-authority as a glue layer) 121

johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 10/07/2026I would be really curious to see what happens with Switzerland. Lots of resources and enough political will, starting in 2004 got guys who could reliably qualify to tourneys, now have been riding a 11 of top 5 league starters (without megastars) for like 12y. Maybe they regress soon, maybe not. 010

johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 01/06/2026Most software is already of lower quality than it should be, and all the clamoring about doing it even more cheaply with LLMs definitely makes me feel some type of way 020

johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 27/04/2026Really interesting, do you have more information to read up on reasoning traces and reasoning in general? Finding it very hard to learn what's behind the marketing chatter. 110
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 25/04/2026If actual people are flagging this you know they don't have they slightest clue how the tech works, just pure implied anthropomorphisation 000
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 25/04/2026Maybe a weird observation but the moderation bot talking about using fancier (and more expensive!) models as if it would make any difference is peak AI brain 110
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 23/03/2026And also, "bike-first design" seems little more than an excuse for people in power to do "bike-only design" and then decide what the bike needs, like "go as fast as you want" and "not paying attention to pedestrians". 010
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 23/03/2026I have heard a similar sentiment at a conference recently, AI (i.e. LLMs) are "a new user group" apparently? It's very weird to me, a bike lane is not designed literally for the bike but for people to get where they are going safely. 131
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 18/03/2026Cool! I think about it a lot in the context of UI design (as a kind of specification), I have been meaning to riff on that myself as well 020

johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 13/03/2026As I understand it, cutting through the marketing blabla, It's for an agent (as an LLM-in-a-loop) to iteratively improve its own prompt based on initial instructions, thereby saving you tokens and time when writing prompts. Ofc the LLM can still ignore relevant ones, load the wrong one etc 121
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 13/03/2026They do count when they are used, but the idea is that they are used only when relevant so if you compare this to sending all the instructions all the time you'll end up saving tokens. 110
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 12/03/2026Well I think you could add shell scripts and the like, it's just very rarely done apparently. Also, I would like do make it very I clear I do NOT recommend downloading and running random shell scripts on one's computer if one does not understand what they are doing. 010
johnnyicarus @marinaeschba.ch · 12/03/2026Yes they are basically parts of prompts that can be added ad hoc, thereby in theory saving you tokens compared to just sending a full prompt every time. 120
