I contributed a short piece to the October issue of Jikken Igaku (Experimental Medicine).” I wrote about my path from human evolutionary genomics to the comparative and population genomics work we are now developing at NMBU, as well as building the lab. www.yodosha.co.jp/jikkenigaku/...

Resampling-based evaluation of a 79-SNP panel for hybrid classification across generations: a case study in European lobster (Homarus gammarus)
Abstract. Accurate detection of hybridization and introgression is critical not only for basic research, but also for fisheries management. In many species

@marie-saitou.bsky.social examined gene expression in human breast tissue, showing that genes enriched in breast tissue are conserved and embedded within transcriptional modules shared with other epithelial secretory organs. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/gbe/evag130 🖌️ Marie Saitou #genome #evolution
GBE | Comparative Transcriptomics Suggests that Breast Secretory Epithelium Reuses Gene Repertoires Conserved Across Vertebrates Beyond Mammals

A researcher investigates breast-associated gene expression modules, illustrating comparative transcriptomic relationships between human breast tissue and other epithelial secretory tissues.

Our new preprint‼︎ We investigated how structural variants are shared across divergent Atlantic salmon lineages, and show that broadly shared SVs reflect distinct evolutionary histories, including ancient persistence, recurrent emergence, and lineage-specific frequency change.

It feels like I am only now starting to understand "how to write a paper". Nine years after finishing my PhD (!!). Perhaps it does not usually take researchers this long, but that is where I seem to be.

I received a minor revision for the first time, and this is also my first single-author paper. The editor’s comments were positive, and since I tend to lack confidence chronically, (rare) moments like this are genuinely very encouraging.
