Up until 2023, Wisconsin had electoral districts that were considered heavily gerrymandered by numerous experts. In 2023, the composition of the state Supreme Court turned liberal, which prompted a lawsuit challenging the maps and a decision by the court that the districts needed to be redrawn.

The liberal candidate has won the race for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court in a hugely consequential special election held Tuesday, despite Musk and his affiliates having invested 20 million to help the other candidate. Musk had among other things engaged voters with cash and a chance to win 1 million.
