Watched the movie, “Eephus” for the first time this week. The entire movie is a group of middle-aged and older men playing a casual recreational baseball game…. until you realize it’s so much more. Really enjoyed the journey.

Not everyone supports permanent daylight saving time. Here’s why

The U.S. could make daylight saving time permanent soon. Is that a good thing?

New “Sunshine for Our Kids Act” prioritizes permanent Standard Time! Much better than the “Sunshine Protection Act”, which mandates permanent Daylight Saving Time. 👏 Thanks to Reps Pat Harrigan (R-NC) and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA)!

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) joined Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA-5) in co-leading the Sunshine for Our Kids Act, bipartisan legislation to end the twice-yearly clock change and make standard time the permanent default nationwide, while allowing individual states to opt into daylight saving time if they choose.

"It's hard to find anyone who enjoys changing the clocks twice a year, yet Americans have been stuck with the same outdated policy for decades. The Sunshine for Our Kids Act replaces that one-size-fits-all mandate with a smarter approach by making standard time the default while allowing states to decide what works best for their own communities," said Congressman Harrigan.

The Health Risks of Permanent Daylight Saving Time
Why the rare bipartisan support for permanent DST gets the science wrong.

Key points
• Permanent DST shifts morning light to evenings, disrupting the biological clock that regulates mood and sleep.
• The U.S. tried permanent DST in the 1970s and repealed it within a year due to public backlash.
• Sleep scientists back permanent standard time, not DST, as the evidence-based fix.
• Permanent DST could exacerbate the existing mental health and sleep deprivation in teens.
• In a Washington climate defined by gridlock and deeply partisan politics, something remarkable is happening. Congress is on the verge of passing the Sunshine Protection Act, a law that would make daylight saving time permanent, with robust bipartisan support and a firm endorsement from the administration.

Why are sleep scientists pushing back against this unusual…

🚨 US House Energy/Commerce Committee today amended the Sunshine Protection Act into the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act. If approved by Congress, it would mandate permanent Daylight Saving Time in all states that don’t self-exempt in advance, with no option for exemption after taking effect.
