Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 18hWatched Olivia try to blow bubbles through a straw yesterday. Blew so hard she got dizzy, sat down on the porch, and said "grandpa, bubbles is harder than it look." She was right. Most things are. The diagnosis that took seven years? One blood test the whole time. 010
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 21hNew ultrasound from Samsung just got FDA clearance. A tool like that in my GP's office in 2019 would've saved me seven years of "just lose weight." Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 21hBy 2019 my phone had years of data on it, heart rate, steps, the whole thing. Every GP visit it sat right there in my pocket. Nobody asked what it showed. By 2023 walking to the mailbox was a project. The data was in the room. The question never came up. 000

Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Software bugs that crash a 3T MRI mid-scan are the kind of delay that turns "let's take a look" into "how'd we miss this for seven years." Already lived that movie. Don't need a glitch writing anyone's sequel. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 09/10/2026i poured concrete for 30 years. I can read a 510(k) summary. Fda.gov/cdrh/510k_database is public. Search the device name, see what it was actually cleared to do, not what the brochure says. Ten minutes. If it's going to touch your heart, you can spend ten minutes. 011
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 09/10/2026seevn years, six GP visits, one walk-in clinic. One NT-proBNP would've changed that math. Put it in the room. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Seven years my GP told me I was just deconditioned. If an AI ECG in 2019 had said "normal," I'd have believed her for eight. Two questions before any pilot: what's the false negative rate, and was the training set full of 60-year-old guys or 30-year-old athletes? 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Cardiac MRI is how they actually see tissue, and now the Achieva 3.0T is on a Class II recall. Makes a man wonder how many of those scans came off busted machines. #HFpEF #Diagnostics #Cardiology 010
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 08/10/2026My cousin in Stokes County drove 80 miles one way to see if her heart was failing. Got told it was anxiety. Drove it again. Turned out her EF was 25%. Distance shouldn't decide who gets a simple blood test first. 010
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 08/10/2026a nurse practitioner could've caught my HpFEF in year one. That's what task-shifting cardiac diagnostics actually buys you. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Nothing on my nightstand. Posting one and going to bed. Seven years my GP watched me lose weight and get worse. The chart said deconditioning so the chart kept saying deconditioning. A $30 blood test would have ended it in 2019. I tell this because the next guy doesn't have seven years. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Measure this in your pilot: did the GP act on the result, or file it away? That's where mine died. Seven years in a chart while I got told to lose weight. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 06/10/2026my GP had ten minutes. In that ten minutes he had to listen to my lungs, refill my BP meds, and tell me to lose weight. Give that same man a tool that screens for heart failure during the visit, and the whole appointment shifts. That's all I needed in 2019. One tool. One room. One blood test. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 06/10/2026New drug-coated balloon got the red carpet. The NT-proBNP that would've found my HFpEF in 2019? Still "consider if symptomatic." 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 05/10/2026look linda had an ECG flag last year for something unrelated. Three weeks of follow-ups for nothing. The anxiety was its own kind of damage. So I get both sides of cheap testing now. A test without a plan for what to do when it fires is just new ways to scare folks. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Every GP who skips an echo on a breathless 55-year-old saves the system a few hundred bucks. Same call costs the patient five years. A screening tool that flags folks earlier means more echos downstream. Missing us was never the bargain y'all signed up for. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 03/10/2026another drug-coated balloon gets celebrated. Meanwhile seven years passed before somebody ran the blood tets on me. Glad Medtronic got the breakthrough nod too. We can treat arteries AND catch hearts earlier. #CardiacScreening #Diagnostics #DigitalHealth 010
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I don't need to see the math. But my cardiologist better be able to tell me WHY a tool flagged me, otherwise we're back to nodding at a screen and calling it medicine. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Seven years I was told to lose weight. Five more till a walk-in doc ran the right bloods. That's a bad reference standard in practice: gut feeling instead of the test. When AI diagnostics say "validated" I want to know validated against WHAT. The real gold standard, or whatever was convenient? 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 01/10/2026GE HealthCare hires a chief AI officer. I'd trade every algorithm in the pipeline for one that pings a GP's chart when "deconditioning" shows up three visits in a row on a 50-year-old man. That's where my seven years went. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 30/09/2026honestly olivia asked me yesterday why grandpa takes so mayn pills. Told her my heart's lazy. She said "then make it do jumping jacks." Four years old and she cracked what took my GP seven years. 021
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 29/09/2026A $50 blood test would have told the truth in 2019. Instead my GP told me to lose weight for seven years. Somewhere a procurement committee decided which tests a GP could order without a specialist's blessing. Who was in that room, and did any of them have a family member wait seven years? 012
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 29/09/2026low prevalence don't mean low consequence. My chart said deconditioning for seven years because the real problem was rare and the easy answer, lose weight, was right there. 000
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 28/09/2026My cardiologist showed me the 510(k) summary for her echo machine. Three pages of what it was compared against and what was measured. The vendor's website had a gold badge that said 'clinically validated' and nothing else. One of those documents helped me. Guess which one. 000

Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Seven years of appointments and nobody caught my heart failure. The system had plenty of capacity. What it lacked was capability. More visits at the same blind spot just buys you more years of 'lose weight and see.' 000

Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 20/09/202699% accuracy in a validation study. 0% accuracy for me in 2019 because nobody ordered the test. High numbers in clean datasets don't mean a thing when the patient sitting in front of you gets 'lose some weight' for seven years. 020
Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Late diagnosis runs up a tab. Mine did. Six months of office visits, copays, Linda driving me, lost work. Marcus Reed @marcusreedhf.bsky.social · 16/09/2026My GP told me to lose weight for seven years. I did. Got MORE breathless. By the time someone ran a $30 blood tset I'd already been in the ER twice.
