I feel like the people who admit gen AI is terrible for everything, including human thinking, but still defend it, are making arguments akin to "we'll use the bombs to blow up deadly asteroids!" - it's naive and use case is limited to basically "it was cool in this movie I saw!"

I lived in Scotland for four years and always felt I'd return some day. Now I've had to exclude the UK from my job search because while my profession happens to qualify for a visa, my wife's no longer does, as of this summer. It just sucks.

*a month later* 🤦‍♂️ To be clear - I hate genAI. Even limited to "simpler" tasks it removes an incredibly important space from humans. My point is more about how talking about quality misses the point in the long term. Even if it becomes indistinguishable, I want art to have humanity.

I get frustrated seeing arguments against generative AI being that it's not "good" when we're already at the lowest requirement for mass consumption. To me the question is why would we want endless "good" AI art? I value art due to the implicit assumption that it's the result of a human process.

I first heard Paranoid in Rock n' Roll Racing when I was 6. Years later, hearing the actual song - recognizing it, Ozzy's voice coming in - it blew my mind. Heard it just now again, sung by a 76-year old Ozzy at the farewell gig. Still blows my fucking mind.

Malazan! I freaking love it. The magic, the cultures, the pantheons, and how they change and transform over millennia. Just as Tolkien being a linguist shone through in his worldbuilding, Erikson being an archaeologist does the same in Malazan.
