AI probably has some uses for retail. A much more realistic potential magic bullet here as I discovered when reporting on Finland’s massive grocery coop (50% market share) was no need for profit prospect.org/2023/10/11/2...

The truth is that if democracy is to survive this era, we can no longer treat independent media as optional. It is essential, and we must do everything we can to help it thrive and grow — quickly. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/demo...

I think what a lot of folks miss is how profitable deportation is for the corporations involved & the politicians they're backing. Holding people, physically removing them, is cost for the taxpayer & profit into the pockets of the worst people you can imagine.

I was quick to sign onto this open letter from a wide range of organizations and experts calling on Canada to rethink its 'move fast and break things' approach to AI governance. It’s ever more urgent that governments move away from the industry-first/only approach to AI. bccla.org/policy-submi...

$160 billion in new spending on building jails, hiring more ICE 'agents' to carry out kidnappings & flying people to torture prisons. For comparison, the 2024 NIH budget, which funds essentially all US medical research, was $47.1 billion. Funding racism instead of research.

Maybe one of the coolest things that's happened to me—being illustrated in a zine! (Not that that's the important part 😅) Much thanks to @kristenthomasen.bsky.social, awesome panelists, & @marcngui.bsky.social for capturing our discussion so well. Check it out here: tinyurl.com/rtfzine #WeRobot2025
Screenshot of cover page and back page of zine | Cover text: Resisting Technofascism: A Panel Discussion @ We Robot 2025 (An annual conference on law and policy relating to robotics) | Panellists: Vasanthi Venkatesh, Sara Ghebremusse, Luke Stark, Bianca Wylie | Moderated by Cynthia Khoo | Back page text: To Do: Divest Dismantle Abolish | Whatever we do, we live it together. We don't have to serve the interests of technology and capital, which are human creations and can be human destructions. We can instead serve the collective good.
