My 3–year-old daughter pointed out the window and said “look, a little bird”. Turns out it’s a yard first Cooper’s Hawk. Already a superb birding companion.

Great job by @birdizlife.bsky.social guest hosting this week’s American Birding Podcast! Enjoyed the discussion and learning about Anuj and his work. Frank, you mentioned a book, I think, “Wild America” but I didn’t catch the author’s name. Would you mind supplying? Thanks!

I really hope my daughter ends up an ornithologist. That would make me feel better about the murmurations in the house

My son & I stopped on our bike ride today & got an incidental lifer. I’m terrible at sparrow IDs & no less so local rarities. Posted this photo to the great @ababirds.bsky.social “What’s This Bird?” Facebook Group & got a near immediate ID. Lark Sparrow, Danehy Park, Cambridge, Mass. 8/27/23

One year ago today I started a #birding yard list. 32 species so far in a medium density urban neighborhood, no feeders & requiring positive visual ID. What I’ve learned: fall migration and winter better than I thought. Photo: Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, winter visitor, March 2023, Cambridge Mass.
