Our dictionary includes this alternate pronunciation but it labels it as “nonstandard” because people who go about disapproving of such things widely disapprove of it.

The phrase "‘tis the season" comes from the Christmas carol, "Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly." The contraction "‘tis" for “it is” was overtaken by 'it’s' in modern speech and remains mostly only in the phrase “’tis the season.” It’s the season to be jolly.

Around 700 BCE ‘January’ and ‘February’ were added to the calendar, initially placed at the end of the year. When these two months were later bumped to the front of the calendar, ‘September,’ ‘October,’ ‘November,’ and ‘December’ found themselves at odds with their roots.

‘Phonetic’ is not. ‘Abbreviation’ is 12 letters. ‘Thesaurus’ doesn’t have a synonym. Say what you will about English, but it has a sense of humor.

people ask, “how can I recover my sense of wonder?” take an interest in things. visit art galleries, hit up the library and discover-browse. read widely. learn new languages, new words. watch old films. the world is a wonderful place but wonder is a muscle that must be cultivated like any other.
