Compact sand having single direction ridges, loose sand with cross ridging. Also more clams.

I remember explaining pavement to coders once and them looking baffled at how ‘primitive‘ it was. As for water, it must always be respected.

If for some reason your are writing stuff you are properly paranoid about there is duksbak paper. It is waterproof to the level of put it in the sink and take a metal scrubby to it and it will be fine.

@translink.ca When are you going to get around to having 4 cars to VCC?Three trains full is not a useful transportation system if you are near the terminus.

I was press ganged last week to give a seminar at UBC this week. Always a fun time and a chance to update my slides. Looking forward to Nick Zentner's Cascade Ice A-Z as there is some interesting timing going on.

A quarter of the size of Newfoundland and Labrador with three times the population. Nah, it’s big.

If the SC overturned Obergefell I had imagined it being the dumbest way possible. Think Edict of Restitution. The marriages were never valid thus creating the great contractual shit show trying to unwind a decade of marriage, life, death, and property. Funny Alito shies from that.

It was. Will that class of modelling be something I ever do; no, unless I jump to BC Hydro. Will it inform everything I do seismically; yes, because it is forming the basis of the 7th gen seismic hazard model (Can.) for NBC 2030.

My Tuesday evening.

How the seismic hazard is constructed is also of interest to engineers but that is before the code so to speak. On the Canadian side we need more money and people for fault characterization so the uncertainty factors have less weighting in the overall hazard.

Engineer adding his two cents on #2: Code requirement for base isolation for high importance structures where it makes sense (e.g., hospital = yes, pump station = not so much because it is much harder to do and the interior use is different).

@patrickwyman.bsky.social When you are in Vancouver, walk along the Coal Harbour sea wall and should find your cormorant.

Scramble means everyone hits from the best ball of your group. So that takes the pressure off. I’d say trust your dad since he likes it enough to own clubs. In my case I would go 3W, 5I, 9I, sand wedge, putter.

My goal is to just do good enough to not be at/too near the bottom.

Marc Bossé @marcbosse.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
What sort of format? Full course / Par 3? Individual / best of group? Use as few clubs as possible. 5 iron and putter are your base. Go hit a bucket with a 5 and don’t wail on the ball. Only as much power as you can manage and keep it going sort of straight.

Do you know if the AGU as a top level organization has internalized a lot of the event planning or do they still rely on local chapters doing the heavy lifting?

That being said, my first appearance was arranged three bottles in at a post-conference dinner to cover for someone’s attendance at another conference. Oh those geomorphology grad students did not know what was coming.

That is why I am happy as a consultant to guest lecture at my nearby university. Fun not toil. And I am not throwing shade on staff, one is a case history class which all of the lectures are invited and the other is a one class insert on the history of and the actual use of bearing capacity theory.

I was reading it as if it made sense. Now having glanced at the paper the 3 km offset makes no sense as they are seemingly pulverizing rock 2 km out.

This is a time for the classics. From an engineering standpoint less than 25 mm/s is probably not damaging but the lower the frequency the greater the potential for damage. And I have no idea about the frequency content of an atomic bomb detonation, but I would imagine low.

I have been watching that play out in Comox for almost 30 years. Armour the slope, starve the spit. I am just waiting for the day the beach cutting initiates the deeper seated slope failures.

You got lucky. This was the first year in a while they have the room open for regular tastings. But yes, mighty fine riesling there. Tantalus in Kelowna is the other riesling benchmark, but low RS and high acid. Opened an '07 a few years ago and it has many years to go.

And if you want the best kind of unhealthy breakfast. Hammer's House of Hog in Oliver tomorrow at 1130 before the rib run out. And it is not a house so much as a trailer in the parking lot of a park.

If you want to visit a winery, I am sure your friends will have their favourites. I would endorse Intersection and La Stella. You should be familiar with Nk'Mip. They are north along the highway before Oliver.

If you want the view from on high you can drive almost all the way up Mount Kobau. A good gravel road was roughed in for an observatory that was never built. It is northwest of town and the south end of the summit ridge.

Why not just say Trump? Trump’s administration/government/regime? Inserting Quisling is redundant unless the implication is good czar bad boyars which I do not think is your aim.

Gas Station Memory: Working nights there was the occasional homeless guy who bathed in the washroom. Usually wet, but not actually messy, just needed a mop. The worst atrocity was a gaggle of HS grad girls who went in and left a disaster, the worst being a layer cake of shit and tp in the toilet.
