Just been ranting about it in the newsletter but Game is glorious bit of British cinema. Nasty, unpredictable, properly bonkers. One of a kind.

TV Presenters and singers saying truth’s our elected politicians over here dare not. Little wonder they’re happy for the arts to die on the vine. Never has it been more important for artists of all kinds to make a noise.

Fittingly, on Shakespeare’s birthday, I just watched ‘The Last of Us’ season 2, episode 2, “Through the Valley.” — !😲! — I will have such revenges on you both, That all the world shall—I will do such things,— What they are, yet I know not: but they shall be. The terrors of the earth. ~King Lear

Filming in Lincoln. Quite a cool place.

Saw some footage yesterday using the James Cameron Stability Ai software, generated from single frame & prompts - blimey it was quite something. As he himself says, it will ‘cut the cost of filmmaking in half’ but I don’t agree it won’t mean ‘without laying off half the staff’. Shifting sands ahead.

RIP Ted Kotcheff. Director of so many great films, who gracefully glided through genres and always entertained. What a range!

Chat with someone this morning about Ai in film, specifically tech in dev by a company a couple of years ago, set to flip everything; it’s nightmare fuel for creatives, Starmer best read the small print. I hope the good will always out, & nothing beats reel/real life experiences, guess we’ll see… 🤞

Just reading #warpfilms are developing series adaptation of nuclear nightmare film ‘Threads’. Should be good, their stuff usually is. The film terrified me as a kid. Wonder if it’s cast yet? Ahem.

Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. In UK cinema now. To tell stories of bravery in the face of horror, someone has to play the monster; fleetingly in this case, that someone is me. A dark time where light & humanity ultimately prevails. Kindness & courage - as necessary today as it ever was.

Thank goodness this never happened. The Sinatra-Kershner version got far enough up the production ladder for the studio to produce a piece of artwork with Sinatra in the title role – This went out in an advertisement that appeared in Variety on November 9, 1970
